    990 adv advice...

ok, got fed up with sportbikes so ended up with a 2005 1200gs, great bike for a big heavy bird in a relaxed sort of way, anyway someone is interested in buying it so its probably gonna go.

SO looking at a 990 SMT or a 990 ADV, like the look of the SMT but thinking if i go from a ADV, i could do a few easy green lanes as well (the GS had cast wheels so didn't really fancy doing much)

So finally my question is, is the ADV a good road bike for scratching about on the back roads, obviously it wont be as good as a SMT but i would have the green lane option with a ADV...

Is the 21" front wheel a compromise or does it not really matter at realistic road speeds (90mph tops) ?

    Cheers

Adv is great for blasting on the backroads, that big front wheel just rides over everything and the bike handles really well (steady at constant 110mph, just don't look at the fuel gauge). The only downside I could find was it caught side winds easily, all that plastic forming a sail I suppose. The SMT is a different class, get one.

Thats the thing, dunno if i would get out much off road but if a ADV is comparable to the GS on the road, that would be fine..

Or do i just say bollocks to it and go for a SMT

The GS is a better road bike, I'd go as far to say so is the 800. The the KTM is much more fun, manoeuvrable and off road worthy. Someone here might go for a ride so you can swap.
