SMT to SD-R. Would I be mad to????????????

Had my SMT since Sept 09 and put 27k on her (pleasure miles within a 300 mile radius of home!) and generally enjoyed the experience (with the exception of the Reg/Rec problems I had and the useless dealers trying to sort it out!)
Anyway, a dealer has offered me £6000 for it ( with Akras/engine bars, carbon mudguard/hugger,heated grips,Led rear light,Gear indicator) which I thought was a bloody good offer. (£4-4.5 k seemed to be the norm) but its against a 'new' 2011 Superduke R (single seat model) which has been discounted to £8850. I can live with the 'direct' throttle response, but its 'that seat' which is making me waiver. Do I just need to MTFU (or buy an airhawk!) or am I mad to be thinking about doing 10-12k per year on a SD-R?

I had a 950SM and fancied a change so I bought an SD-R. I missed throwing a sports bike around and getting my knee down. Beautiful looking bike, but a pain in the arse (quite literally) on the UK shite roads. On a billiard board smooth A road I loved it, but I tend to use B roads to stay away from the police and traffic. So I was always bounced out of the seat, head-shaking or generally riding an unstable bike and ending up backing off. I lasted one summer, sold it and bought an SMT. Pig ugly by comparison, top heavy and unwieldy, but rides so well on the type of roads I prefer.

I wasted money changing to an SD-R, but that is just my opinion based on my style of riding. perhaps if you build in the cost of a new seat and a suspension re-valve it might suit you.

10,000 miles on am SDR would be hellish in my opinion. Horses for courses, the masochists will be along to tell you how it will be fine. If you want something less pedestrian get a 990SMR. Or buy a second hand standard SD and keep the SMT.
