My mates 2008 EXC450r has done 230 hours and is starting to burn oil, so rather than just do the rings what is the best piston to fit and does anyone have the workshop manual please.

Cheers.

my 2009 450 used oil straight from the showroom,so did my 2 x 2011 400's
a mate fitted a wossner piston to try to cure the oil usage issue,no change
i've just fitted a 450 crank into one of the 400's,Vertex piston............now no oil loss at all, zero
can't believe it after all these years i've found a solution
3 rides now,oil level exactly the same

so read my post again Kev
had 3 RC-4's from the showroom using too much oil,all with new crank seals presumably ;)
got my 09 450 in august 08
so had 3 1/2 years of chasing this oil use issue, which was exactly the same in the 2 x 011 400's [new crank seals from new bikes]
put 450 crank into 400 [new crank seal] with Vertex piston
solved

why don't you pop into Normandy when you're heading south to Stella on the 990?

Thank you very much but we have those, what we are looking for is the workshop manual, showing you how to change the piston, check the valves and such :)

Cheers.

Mine used a bit of oil, changed piston (OEM) and valve seals now all ok , apart from a slight camchain noise.. bugger, should have done that at the same time..

just found out that the 400 piston is almost identical to the 450
except for the height......12 thou difference
only available from Hardparts
