    Unfortunately the smaller the engine the more accurate the jetting needs to be (if accurate is the correct word).

    Don't make big steps, only go up/down one jet or 1/2 clip on the needle at a time and only change 1 thing at a time so that you know what each change does

    don't forget to set the AS too, although this does seem to be less temperamental than the old carbs

    if you're fitting a shim (and more so if using 2 shims) make sure the needle is seated correctly...the needle should have a bit of springy wobble when you wiggle it and should look straight, if it doesn't wobble (and centralise itself) or look straight then undo the "bolt" (holder) and see why it's not wiggling etc...

    13 250exc, 14xc head, 38pilot, n8rh clip2 with 0.2mm shim, 168 main.... '17 300 exc, 45pilot, 460 main, 43-73 needle, clip2 with a 0.1mm shim.......shims from Vario-helicopters UK, 90840 is 0.3mm, 90830 is 0.2mm and 90820 is 0.1mm

    Thanks again, if I do go to the next leaner needle with a shim, would you alter the pilot as well ?
    The best place to be would be on the middle clip but that would mean leaner again, the other needle I have is a 43:75, which in your opinion would be best to try first , 42:74 or 43:75 ?

    The 75 it's very slightly leaner which may help the loading

    I'd see what the smaller pilot does first as it's dead easy to swap and see if that's what's causing the loading up.

    If it's not what's causing the problem then start to look at needles, clip 2 or 3 it doesn't matter.

    change 1 thing at a time

    42-74 or 43-75? i'd be tempted to try the 43-75 first but try both. whichever is better only then use a shim if you need to ever so slightly need to richen the needle.

    So the 18 fi is out in a few weeks and the 17 jetting page is still at top of page 1 on forum.

    The tpi models are 250 and 300 only so all the other two strokes using the Mikuni, plenty of help still needed lol

    Thanks chaps, my thoughts are do you know if the taper changes when going up and down on the needles ?
    Reason I ask is that's the part I think causing the issue the very first part when coming on to it from pilot ?

    Maybe ktm are just giving the other manufacturers a chance. Producing an unjettable 17 has got impact to 18 sales. I need a new bike a certainly won't be buying either year.
