    2016 300exc carb question

    I have bought a 2016 300exc, stock apart from a KTM pipe.
It's running rich at the bottom end and then runs spot on from about 1/8 throttle on.
I have fitted a 35 pilot jet, it's helped but still seams rich.
I can screw the air screw all the way out without the tick over slowing, all this points to a smaller pilot jet but it already seems small, Any thoughts.

I'm running 60/1 fuel mix as per the manual is this what most people are running?
I,m just using it for green laning.

What needle and what clip position are you using? This issue is most like likely a wrong needle or clip position.
35 PJ is the smallest you can get, and anything over 3 turns out on the AS won't make a lot of difference. Generally the AS will not make a lot of difference to the idle speed until the last 1/2 turn in, when it kills the engine. However it makes a huge difference to spluttering and rideability etc.

And damaged, split or bent reeds will cause low end spluttering

Try leaning one clip to see if it clears up?

Mine's needs to go back the other way for winter, it was leaned off a clip in that summer.... now it bogs then clears when I crack it open initially, more pop on my 200! Not run it in months though due to various issues though to try it out.

They all tend to be a bit rich at the bottom, so your problem is nothing serious

As tetley says the air screw doesnt really make much difference, but the idle should go up when you turn it counter clockwise. The idle should get lower when you turn it in, some bikes dont die immediately even with the air screw turned fully in. It should die once the screw is seated though. Make sure that the idle screw is as far out as possible once you're ready with the a/s adjustments.
60:1 is good, most people adhere to what KTM says.

If you got 70 quid left get an JD needle kit, it works really well with the 2015/2016 bikes. If not try what the guys suggested.

Dont forget to let us know whats going on...

As you can probably tell, I'm used to 4strokes hence thinking the AS was the issue.
I am running 170 main N8RG needle on top notch and 35 pilot.
So are you guys suggesting a leaner needle at the bottom end?

I'd have said clip 2 with that needle and prob a 38, AS around 1.5 to start with...... are you sure it's rich?

Yes I'm sure it's rich, it stutters at the 1/8 throttle and then runs fine as soon as you increase the throttle.
When I got it, it had a 180 main needle on third notch and a 38 pilot. Making it leaner has improved things but I would like to get the bottom end running right.
