Power valve setting for mellow ride ?

Hi
This is for a friend struggling with his 2016 exc300 it's a 40 hour bike bone stock he's had it from new and never touched it, only thing he has is the green spring in but it's hitting hard when coming on the pipe instead of being sweet and mellow how he wants it, stock gearing 14t front stock rear,
Can anyone recommend a good jetting spec and powervalve setting with the brass dolly to save trawling through a million old threads please lol

I've not tried a green spring but the position of the adjuster only affects the point in the revs at which the ex valve starts to open...

You could get your "fwiend" *cough BULLSHIT* to try the adjuster all the way out then either half or one turn in and have another try.... just to see the effect.

As for jetting i'd try n8rg clip 2 38 or 40 pilot 170 main AS 1.75 out, it won't be the mellowest jetting out there but it'll be honest, you could try the necj that some like as it's supposed to be very smooth, not sure what people ended up using with it, have a search on here ....

Hope your "friend" wink wink gets it sorted :rotflmao:

Your "friend" might also want to look at what needle it's got. If it's like my 200s oem needle (N1Ei), I just couldn't get a smooth transition on the throttle. I used necj, now nedj as it feels nicer at smaller throttle openings. The OEM needles seem to favour the ex MX rider more who gets the throttle open fast and hard.

Friend ? lol didn't think of it like that haha but yeah it is actually for my mate I don't ride an old dinosaur anymore 17 only thanks ?
Thanks though boys it gives him something to start with, he wants to really chill it out, I don't remember my 16 being like that it was really smooth out the box, his pv has about 3 threads showing

3 threads is too much. The further its in the harder it will hit. For a smoother transition he should wind it out until it is a little less than flush, it will show only one thread then.
For a more comprehensive testing he should follow stu's advice and try half turn wise...

if it's on the green spring and it's firey then jet it richer than it is now.... ride your mates bike n see what it's doing... if it's lean(er) then it'll react fast to small throttle openings... i'd say go down the necj route.....

try a bigger pilot, a 38 or better still a 40 (if it doesn't get too rich) will help calm it down and will be smoother too, set the air screw accordingly

stick the pilot in, set the AS** and then try it, think it would be too rich on clip 3 but you can always try it, only takes a few mins to swap it

always set the AS when the bike has fully warmed up... ie after atleast 10 mins riding, never set it when it's cold....

if it's got a 170 already i don't think it's worth going bigger BUT as said before it only takes a few mins to swap it...

ONLY do 1 thing at a time so you know what the change has done, too many people change lots of things and if it doesn't work correctly they don't know what is causing any of the new problems.

Quick updat and cheers for the help, pulled his powervalve apart to have a look and make sure he had the green spring in to find that he did but its was installed backward lol putting no tension on it at all lol
Fitted it correctly, went 38 and 175 on the jets, pulled the ingition map plug so in soft mode and reset the pv dolly and it's like a c90 compared with How it was !
Got him up to ride it and he couldn't believe the difference !!!
Now sorted and he might have a chance of enjoying it rather than it trying to kill him lol
