I think the standard set up was 14/48 ( not 100% sure ).
Can you not just open the throttle more slowly or dip the clutch to prevent your wheelies ?
correct ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
road use was 15/45
offroad 14/48
to stop it wheelyingjust use less throttle or move a bit further forward.
most peope run either 14/52 or 13/50 the main reason being you can use 2nd gear for slow speed work instead of 1st.
Mark.
I have always ran 14 /50 on al of my 450 s , but i mainly ride off road , my mate runs 13 /52 on his 250 4 st exc
13/50 spot on for off roading...........
have tried with the throttle but got w*****s wrist so its a bit to strong lol. no its not just the wheeling, when green laning 2nd isnt quite enough but 3rd is to much. will have to have a play. probaly leave it at 14 then go to 50 rear. cheers
"when green laning 2nd isnt quite enough but 3rd is to much."
For what ? Do green lanes not have any variation in their terrain ? where 1st and 4/5/6th get used ?
I agree with the poster above, that 13/50 is an optimum off-road set up.
Your tendency to wheely would reduce if you lengthened your wheel base by putting your rear wheel as far back as possible.
14/50 for laning, makes a decent compromise for the road going. Dont get me wrong,i have ridden rutts in 5th with 14/50 set up but when i hit the higher end of the revs,it all went wrong!!lol. Wheelies can be had off the throttle in 5th although with ease in 4th.
Swap to a 13 in an enduro to get the use out of higher gears.
Just my experience and preferences.
i do 13-50 off road, little buzzy at 60, but great off road, 4th for most lanes
