250 EXC-F vs XCF-W whats the difference between them???

Right then im struggling with this one. I have done the normal Google stuff but still cant find a difinitive answer. it apears that its just an exc-f for the American market, am I correct??

I am interested in a 2008 xcf-w which is up for grabs but have reservations. can anyone enlighten me as to what a 250 xcf-w is and how it differs from a 250 exc-f of the same year??

Some say its cams, others exhaust only, others say its a road legal MX bike with 6 speed box and some lights and a fan?

    thanks all

the xcf has a more close ratio gearbox and it does not come with lights, horn, speedo therefor it is not road legal straight out the box like an exc but they are a pleasure to ride i had a go on pugwash xcf off here and it was a lovely bike to ride very smooth and the suspension is a lot better than the exc it has cartridge forks which are so so plush.

i was on the verge of ordering a new 350 model this year but have held off for another year to see if they sort the non running problems out on the fuel injection side pm pugwash off this site and ask him he has a 250 xcf or brokenlegs he knows a fair bit about them

    cheers shawn

your talking about the xc-f which is the one to have with twin chamber forks, close ratio box etc. leighandlou is asking about the xcf w which is basically an exc f with very basic switchgear and an sx f silencer. Originally intended for the south african market.

So is the xcfw just a basic version of an exc with a mx pipe?? Does it come with the cartridge forks like the xcf?? No cams, carb or other differences then??

so whats the point to this model then?? so its an exc with a louder pipe and no lights. so what are the benifits? why not just buy an exc??

Im looking for a KTM 250 fourstroke to replace my old Gas Gas 200ec for hare and hounds with the odd day out on the lanes. I have been offered a 2008 xcfw road registered with lights and a daylight mot. should i just buy a exc?

because you could buy a new one for £1000 less than an exc at the time. if you want it for racing then it doesn't matter anyway, if you want a bike for laning buy a 400 exc.

ah I see. I been told that the bike in question has the xcf suspension fitted from an 09 xcf which I believe are the cartridge units how can i confirm this visually??

yes I want a bike that will do both but leaning more towards Hare and Hounds.

thanks for your help this must be frustrating

no worries, the twin chamber forks have the compression adjuster on top, the exc forks have the rebound adjuster.

you won't go wrong using it h & h and a bit of laneing, thats what i do with mine. I've just had my suspension revalved by chris at OTR and is so smooth and plush now.
