Could a RC8 owner kindly share info on the following;

At what mileage does an RC8 visit the Service Dept for its first service and what are you being quoted/paying? Or are you getting the first service for free?

Thereafter, what are you expecting to pay for a service and how often do the technicians expect to see your bike?

Afternoon peeps :D

RC8 has just had its first service - £99 which included all filters, oil & labour.

It took all day and I had the pleasure of a 690 Duke - the only pleasure was giving it back - sorry if you've got one, but that freaky little thing just didn't do it for me!

Thanks for the update - not too frightening!

Lisa - Is this a gender issue - a polite way of saying that the RC8 is a big girl's bike and the 690 Duke is really a bike for small boys?

My RC8 is having it's first service in about 10 days,as I'm going away until then, though I've done just over 600 miles since picking up the bike last week.

The service will be free, like all first services are at my KTM dealer.

I've had 7 new KTMs and not paid for a first service yet,so assume the RC8 will be the same.

Picked up my white RC8 from Fowlers this afternoon. No handbook, no running in info and seems Acumen alarm wont fit even though I've told my insurer one is fitted. Fowlers are going to fit the factory alarm which they say is Meta. Is this Thatcham approved? Bit concerned as a previous posting says it is not Thatcham. Anone got any info? How do you change the dash? Beats me but only had the bike 3 hours.
Fueling and gearbox seem fine. Brakes are something else.
Love it so far just want some dry roads this weekend

Surely that's got to be for the first proper service (circa 4000 miles), rather than the first 'change oil/filter and check over' service

Mine took all day, and they booked the entire day to focus their attention on it with no other work scheduled. It only cost £99 (labour, oil & filters inc) which makes your original £340 sound like you're being fleeced and the £170 still a little over the odds. Another guy on here was getting his first service for free and another was quoted £90 so yours sounds too steep.

I was under the impression that the first service was oil & filters plus a tighten up and check through the computer. That shouldn't cost anywhere like £340. Interesting they booked out the whole day for yours lisa. Had they serviced an rc8 before? Might have been the trainer!! Either that or maybe yours didn't have the spring that was changed in the factory on gearbox...... maybe there's other adjustments to be made they're not telling us about! Still waiting for mine and will be for at least a month. The wait's killing me!

First service carried out by Fowlers today. £69. Not too bad I thought. They sorted the steering lock.Seems they had to ream out the hole in the headstock by a few microns to allow the pin to engage. Demo bike is the same. KTM said there is no problem with the press bikes so seems to be later production models. Had the factory alarm fitted.Goes in the tail unit not under the seat so no need to loose the tool kit.

Just paid for first service on my RC8.

Total cost £34.56 which was for oil change/filter and O ring.

Labour was free,as always on a KTM first service and they even fitted the KTM fold up levers FOC !!

Some dealers are rogues trying to charge you, especially £340 and then you think you get a good deal when they halve it.

Damn - I have been keeping it under 5000rpm up to 500 miles as per advised form the dealer...Today ws the day I broke through it and opened it up to 7.5K. Damn it was good.

So Take it for a service as per the computer ? Again, dealer man said bring it in around 1000 miles...

£340 is the sort of price you'd expect to be charged for a 1st service on an adventure or superduke which require a full stripdown and valve check.
Looks like the rc8 doesn't need a valve check, so you shouldn't be paying more than 1-2 hrs labour, plus oil and filter, so £90 seems about right.

Just enquired about first service at my supplying dealer (thorne superbikes) and they have quoted me 220pounds, Dosen't seem like there looking after me very well. Had a ring round other ktm dealers near to me and they all quoted less even though they hadn't supplied bike.
Can anyone recommend a dealer in yorshire area who will look after me?

I gave my insurers the KTM alarm details and they were fine with it. Very happy with the no-claims-protected, fully comp cover for £200 with £450 excess :D

Just had my first serviec and was originally quoted £250 but after the work was done they ended up charging me £130.
They said the difference in price was due to KTM changing the service so that it no longer needed valve clearance checks.
I've had 3 new bikes (a Kwak, Duke and now a KTM) and have never had the first service free, so looks like all the dealers down hear near me are tight! :)
Cheers

Can anyone tell me exactly what is done for the 30,000km service? Bike when purchased had missed the 15,000km service and now on 21,900kms so dealer suggested doing the 30,000km service earlier than doing a minor now.

Interested to find out as they are quoting $890 AUD for the major (valve clearances etc).

By quoting AUD I take it you are in Australia. The service intervals are 10,000 km so you are up to date, however the 21000 k service is stupid drug money expensive and I don't know why. They check the valve clearances but how long does that take. They also change all the fluids and the replacement Motorex stuff is dearer than anything else so that might be part of the cause for the expense. Is the bike still under warrenty?,if its not I would suggest a non KTM dealer if money is tight.

Bike no longer under warranty so have decided to take it to my friends mechanic who is tech support for race teams and builds race bikes. He's got all the KTM diagnostic equip and is a little cheaper, not much, but he's a genius and I know it will be 100% perfect. Our local KTM dealer is more used to enduro/dirt bikes and from what I can gather has very little to do with RC8's as they are as rare as rocking horse shit where I'm from. Mechanic fitting SAS block off plates while he's got all the fairings off.

On a side note, is an O2 sensor a must to clean up fuelling off the throttle pick-up?
