bodywork idea! please check this out!!

    Hi everyone!

Dont worry im not trying to sell anything but im wondering if someone is interested in doing a deal with me? Im a composite engineer by trade and have worked in WSBK/WRC etc (so i can make carbon fibre autoclaved parts and fibreglass) and im wondering if somebody would be interested in doing a range of road kits? To make carbon fibre bodykits etc, a mould needs to be made (costs around ?15-1600) and a bodykit to copy! Would somebody be interested in going halfers with me on cost to make a mould and supply a road kit to copy?? in return, you will get a new glass kit and your road kit back plus i will make the fibreglass or carbon fibre kits at cost price going forward for you either to fit to you (cheaper than trade price!! actual material costs only). So you can either fit a full CF kit to ur own bike or even re-sell to shops/customers etc and make some money?
I will make everything in-house and you can get your original road kit back also within 4-5 weeks of arrival .
please let me know if this could be of interest?? might be a cool idea and ideal for someone?

please let me know your thoughts guys!

    hi,

I have my reservations about this but im sure you can put people straight, basically the last time i gave some of my Ducati parts to a guy (professional may i add) and he made moulds out of them the original parts didnt come back in fantastic condition as the moulds mark the paint/pull it off in places

can you assure people that wouldnt happen?

Hi there, yes i understand this can happen, But what i normally do is tape the whole pattern up (in this case a bodykit) and then lift from the tape. this stops the chemical heat damaging the paint etc. I understand how it can happen and there is always a slight possibility, but it hasnt happened to me yet. But if somebody has serious worries then i would recommend not to offer the kits.
Basically there is a very slight chance, but i take every precaution and normally i have no issues. I did all the Factory Yamaha bodywork before and never had any issues.

    I hope this helps?

KTM "track" body kits are competatively priced. And look the same to me, (only seen the pics ). Would be better than taking an RC8 apart (well - mine anyway).

    Hi there,

I think you have mis understood what im planning doing? Im wanting to copy road kits and not race kits. There are alot of race kits on ebay and generally rubbish and ill fitting(believe me... i race british superstock etc and its a nightmare), but what i want to do is make really high quality (low volume) kits in either pigmented glass (orange etc) or autoclaved prepreg carbon fibre for road bikes. To do this i need to use a road kit. This is because race kits dont have the proper cut outs for lights and normally the mould used to produces them is a copy of a copy of a copy...i.e- the kits dont fit near as good. Also race kits have catch undertrays and the sides are moulded to the head units unlike originals.

    I hope this helps?

    regards

Euhm, so you want someone to pay for half the mould, and then you can sell fairings from a mould taken from his fairings and make a profit out of it?

I donīt know, but it doesnīt feel quit right...

I think the intention is to go in to partnership with somebody... share the costs, share the profits. Well I'd hope so anyway, lol

    Hi folks

Yeah what i aim to do is do a deal with someone where i will make everything and wont sell stuff outside the agreement so all kits would be split with whoever comes in with me. Its not in my interest to go out and sell loads of kits as im doing this more as a project so i thought if somebody wanted to join me with it,they could make money of it (dare i say, alot more than what im asking for) . basically whoever comes on board will be like a partner in the idea and any kits that get sold will go through them. im not personally looking at this as a line to my company as i focus now on commercial work than motorcycle bodywork but its still a cracking line for somebody wanting to make cash on the side and to be fair, with little risk.

    i hope this helps

    all the best

    James
