Take the words of wisdom for what they are.
OR talk to Berni at UK KTM and he'll tell you exactly the same as what resti just mentioned/stated.

No ones getting at ya pal, take it easy on the tweed aye.

Just about anyone with basic skills can do an oil change on a 690. Just about anyone with basic skills can go over the bike and check for loose fastenings - and let's be honest these big singles do vibrate parts loose. But if you don't have a decent torque wrench (and know the settings) you can do rather a lot of expensive damage - with alloy and other lightweight components - stripping and crushing is rather common.

More importantl though at servicing time are KTM's latest downloads - and I've had my own 690 remapped (even when I didn't know it needed it) and I can't do that it my own workshop! If you live in remote places then visiting a decent KTM workshop isn't always an option but I'm not trying to sell you chaps anything .....

Well I'd be very cautious about any new KTM dealership that employs people who don't have a history of working on these bikes - maybe some of the technicians will have been employed by a previous KTM dealer? Do you really want a technician whose sum KTM knowledge is based on a few days training by KTM UK? Might also be worth checking out if the dealer has invested in all the latest KTM diagnostic and plug in mapping kit? If you are going to be charged top dollar for servicing - make sure you are getting more than a basic oil change.
