Put my bike on the stand the other day to give it a bit of a clean and noticed the oil did not even register on the side case window. I am now confused as to where it all went because there is no huge puddle on my garage floor, but I'm more worried as to how many times I've run it like that! There is still some oil left in there (I can see it from the hole on the case) but it will need topping up
My question is, do I only need to top it up there or do I need to go through the whole process of topping it up through the frame (with those 0.6L that need to go there)?
My plan is to top it up just for a quiet Saturday bimble before I take it somewhere where I can get the oil changed (my landlady goes crazy if I so much as drip one tiny bit of oil onto the floor...
Why top the frame up its all one unit so topping up from the fill cap is all you need to do. then drain the lot when doing oil and filters. when is your next oil change? Can pop by if i get my forks sorted in time
Was talking to a friend tonight who has the 640 adventure and he advised me not to trust the glass window (because of the dry sump - sth like that???)... told me to run it for a bit and see if I can see any oil running through.
Not sure if that's true of the 625 smc but I'll give it a whirl
Well that's the difference I'm learning with me other bike... The glass there is a clear indicator of oil even when cold - tilt it over and if you can see it in the glass, you're ok! I never knew that was not the case on the KTM
next oil change is a good few months away... mileage wise also got about 2,500 to go before doing it (by the book anyway). Might do it when I have some time down at OMC
Ok plan of action is to run it for a bit, see if I can see any oil out of the glass and if I do, it's fine, if not, top up...
Hoping to get it filled up and sorted on saturday as I'm heading out with nivag onto Surrey Byways to test out his new toy!
