    Talking 690 Reliability/Problems ???

I thought it would be a good idea for members to post any problems they have/are experiencing with any of the 690 KTM's. Are they generally reliable? more or less so than the 640/660? Has anyone done any big mileage on theirs? We should be able to build up a data base of what can be expected to go wrong

    Hi,

Well when i had my 690 it had a new head gasket at 350 miles, dealer changed the gasket but not the bolts(DOH),it happened again at 500 miles new bolts this time,oh and the decompression spring snapped so it was a bugger to start my dealer never noticed it,

Parts took ages to arrive, waited nearly 4 months for exhausts,

Loved the bike to bits but in the end i had to sell it, i lost all confidence in the bike and KTM,

    Cheers

    690 reliability

    6000 miles no reliability problems.

Did have fi light come a couple of times(cold start) but this did not effect bike in any way.Have since treated electrical connectors not happened again.

Also stripped beak, treated connectors inside, put rubber seal between upper&lower beak, and blocked up hole where lower beak joins forks, hoping to avoid any problems there.

    Love it

Done almost 9,000mls and have had a new rear light, complete loom, regulator rectifier, output shaft oil seal, alarm, clocks and.......no i think that's it...but apart from that i love my 690 and have no intention of selling it.

First 690 Prestige (0-7000 km): condensation in dashboard, swapped under warranty.

Second (don't ask) 690 Prestige: (4000-9600 km): faulty neutral sensor, bike thinks it's in gear all the time.

Sometimes the start up routine (speedo needle wizzing, all the dash lights go on) end with bad ignition settings from the computer: the bike will start with 4000 rpm on the rev meter. Not good for a cold engine! Need to restart a couple of times and suddenly the computer gives normal commands again.

(All electrics were sprayed with some water repellant stuff (vaseline that dries up-sort of) from new. This improves the waterproofness of the bike)

    Otherwise

490 miles, other than those little issues already documented (gear shift falling off as I was heading into a roundabout and mirror deciding to face the opposite direction) no problemos Booked in for 1st service and then drop the front sprocket by one tooth and

My bike had the start up and rev to 4000 rpm thing happen, turned out to be trapped(mis-routed) throttle cable.

If it happens again give your throttle cables a gentle pull with the bars turned to the left, see if that stops it.(you can see them moving by the frame in front of the battery)

Might not be your problem, but worth a try..

Thanks, Jazon, I'll try your fix next time.
