Fuel injection is better really when its sorted honest and the 990 with these mods is fine even better with good cans on
    Right here are the piccys

im not at all familar with the dark arts of F.I, so what does this mean for the engine, and what possible harm can removing it do to the bike?

Well by the look of the dyno chart from Sommer the blue line indicates that the bike with the mod is producing more torque and bhp across the range so a cheap increase in power doing the mod should have NO detrimental effect at all apart from the extra power from the use of full throttle

Heheheh... Not from me. I think I've posted enough on EFI from KTM on this forum. About two years ago I assisted Tuneboy with the development of TuneEdit for the SD and I'm working with them now on the 690. They know every bit of the KTM (Keihin) EFI systems. All I know and in all the official information I have and have access too there is not a word on any adaptive function. So I'm not going into a yes/no debate on this. Everybody his own truth...

    Wink

The dictionary definition of "adaption" is modify, alter for new use, change. This page is from the KTM workshop manual So make your own mind up when you read it and see if the correction made by the change in sensor value adapts or modifies the ignition or fueling?

Dont cut anything!!locate the connector behind the plastic cover on the left side of engine, pull the plug apart, mark where the wires go then using a small elec screw driver prise the tag back, applying slight pulling pressure to release the wire in the plug, apply shrink wrap or tape to the metal connection so it dont short out, put plug back together tidy wiring up, fit cover, enjoy

It seems we are talking about two interpretations of 'adaptive'. The sensors for ambient air pressure, ambient air temp, coolant temp and the O2 sensor are used to adjust the fueling to optimize for the current operating conditions of the engine. This is a constant process when the engine is running. No data is stored or modified. Almost every current EFI system works this way. Some systems use more sensors than others.

But this is not 'self-learning' as in the EFI system learning from the way the bike is ridden and changing itself to match a riding style and keeping that info stored somewhere. The only thing the system 'learns' are the base parameters during the 15 min calibration procedure (reset is not the right word).
