    LC4 body modifications....what is possible?

    Hi All,

I have an LC4 640 2004 model and I want to change the deep, droopy side panels next to the exhaust and the droopy rear panel that the rear light and plate mount onto. I have seen pictures of LC4 smc 2006 year and it has a much crisper, sharper design of the panels in the area I want to change. Not sure if this was standard on all LC4 from 06, but anyway, that's the look I want to achieve. Question....is this conversion possible? Anyone attempted this before? If so, how much do I need to do to the rear subframe and other structures? Where can I get the suitable panels and associated bits?

Hope someone out there can help,

    Cheers,

    mark.

there are lots of threads on this already

you can get the newer subframe and the seat and rear fender and will swap over. Plus you will need the exhaust system if you want twin pipes. You can modify the subframe to take the new plastics and use a single pipe - i'm sure keith-iow will post up what he did.

Or you can try and fit an exc rear end on using the standard subframe and welding and cutting a few bits - search for dusty's bike

    Hey Mark

Here's a mod you could do, I used a 2004 660 rear end because it's alloy rather than the heavy steel one and I chopped off every bit I could and I do mean every bit. With a bit of bending and tig welding the new shape backend and seat fits perfectly, and then you are left with a big hole.
So take one of these (and sxv or rxv rear box)

and shove it in the hole like this.

When I can be arsed to pick up the frame from the powder coaters I will get on and finish this bike, it's sat like this for over a year now. I just lost intrest.

I will post some better pics of the back end if you want to see how it's been bent and welded. Let me know.

Hi all - thanks for the replies so far. I have a single pipe exhaust system that exits on the left side. If I get a subframe (from somewhere) and new plastics can I just swap them for the existing ones or will I have to get a different seat and also rearrange the battery and electronics? Also, I guess I'm going to need new airbox covers as well?

    Cheers,

    Mark.
