    950SMR with Akros...

My bike has Akros and I run them without the baffles. Should the bike have revised engine maps running on it, so as not to damage the engine, or are they OK to run with standard engine map? What is the easiest way to find out, do I need to get a KTM dealer to plug the bike in and see what it is running on?

I am a bit of a technical novice, so keep your answers simples for this dumb ass

    Cheers

Like I said, I'm a technical dumb ass.

So with carbs, there is no need to make adjustments made whatever exhausts are fitted?

Are the Akra's the only change ? Or did you also get an aftermarket (like K&N) Airfilter ? If so, maybe the jetting of your carburator need to change as with a less restrictive airfilter the air/fuel mixture changes towards a leaner (I didn't say lean) condition.
If the akra's are the only change, no sweat.

More experienced guys in the jetting department will chime in.

I'm no pro spanner spinner myself chief. in fact, have a search for a thread I started about my Fuel cans. General consensus is needle adjustment at least, could run lean otherwise.

Popping on deceleration=Lean. Example-run the bike hard in 2nd gear and let off the throttle. If it pops and backfires your too leanish and need more fuel.

Get to a dyno for a proper set-up. you will prob need to raise the needles and remove something from the airbox to allow more airflow.

No other mods i.e. airbox as far as I am aware.

Yes, slowing down on down changes and there are backfires/pops from the cans, which I happen to like but will give up if it is not right I suppose.

So if this is running too lean, how does this affect the engine and are there any ways I can have a go to rectify it myself. I may be a novice, but am game to have a go if it is not major engine surgery !!!

I hear its a bit of a pig as the carbs are inside the airbox.

I am about to book mine into a dyno to be properly set-up. its been to the dealer twice for its hesitation, both times they have said that it had gone after they adjusted the needles. both times they were wrong. (i have a full Ti Evo akra system on mine)

for peace of mind im happy to pay someone with tuning experience to set it up correctly once and for all.

plus you get a nice sheet of paper with a graph on it

After installing a Head2Wind Jet Kit on my SMR the popping/backfire almost never happens, bikes runs much smoother, and runs much stronger when I roll on the throttle in any gear--Basically the bike was starving for fuel with the stock jetting and the uncorked Wings.
