    690smc on a long journey...

Whats the average ye do on your smc's on a day trip??

Im just beginning my hunt for my SMC

    and have a few questions..

How often do ye change oil/clean screens??

I used do it every 1k miles on my DRZ . Would this be adequate with the SMC?
Im pretty anal about maintenance so this wont bother me..

Is there a thread on doing the valve clearances here??

I wouldnt mind taking it to the GF's home every now and then.. thing is its 88miles away.. 15 of those miles are motorway 70mph limit. Would i be mad sitting on 70mph for pretty much that whole journey?? The drz would sit on 70 all day for me..

How much of a difference do i expect from dropping 1 tooth up front??

    Cheers.

    Aurin

The SMC will sit at 90mph all day on a motorway in 6th....but it won't be the comfiest. I did Derby to London to Brighton and back the next day, on the way down there it was ok but the next day it felt like it was trying to cut me in half! That's a round journey of 360 miles so I'm sure your journey will be fine.

As for maintaining the oil and filters, every 1000 seems a bit anal for an SMC but I'm sure it won't complain at the extra tlc.

Good luck in the SMC hunt

No need to drop one tooth- gearing is pretty well spot on- it`ll wheelie in third anyway so why change?

I picked up my SMC from Leeds- bang on 70 miles- all the way back at 80 no problem at all. This bike is more comfortable at 70 than my Harley ( though you may want to get a gel seat for longer journeys ( or a bicycle pair of shorts )

About to do my oil change at 1850 miles- I do lots of trackdays so will change oil after every third track day. I think every 3000 miles is the norm but like you think every 1000 is best. Oil is expensive though.

Great bike with no problems at all. Sure the clocks mist up a bit but there will be little quirks with this sort of bike in my opinion.

    Cheers for the replys!!

Sold the other bike today so the hunt is officially on!!

There is only 1 for sale in ireland. So its a case of doing i buy the bog standard one here and do it up to my taste.

Or buy a full akra'd one in the UK , pay to have it collect, exchange rate and vehicle registration..

Thankfully nothing is selling over here. So it may hang about in time for me to get my finances in check

I have absolutely zero interest in your rear end ........ but its shape, muscle and fat content may be a deciding factor on how long/far you can ride a 690 smc before begging for mercy. Personally I find about 300 miles is more than enough before the attractions of a hot bath and a cool pint become my sole focus. On the other hand you may be a chap who enjoys Japanese style personal endurance tests - involving a plank of wood, assorted anal beads and a downpour of rain in Co Wicklow?

Glad you are not turning up at my door with a 'want' to buy my 690 smcommuter and no finances in check. Mind you I met two girls from Dublin last week who tell me they are working in Scotland in order to send food parcels home to their poverty stricken families.

Etuna is selling his lovely black smc on here.No need for a full akra, just the can as the header is not worth the extra coin at all.It adds hardly any HP and is only slightly lighter.I found the akra totally changed the bike, opened it up so much more and sounds class.

If I were you I wouldnt buy down south lad,rip off IMO.I'd buy across the pond and save yourslef a few squid!

I'm going down to the kells road races on sat and stayin for the racing on the sunday and I'm thinkin of taking the 690.If your goin and want a run on mine then your more than welcome to
