Is anyone on here able to get me a registration with the vin number? Happy to pay beer tokens if that's what it takes ?

What lee says is bang on! If it’s hot, get shot of it. Name and shame the shits that sold it to you.

Or it could be you have a legit unregistered bike with just a VIN off the frame? If it’s this then it is very easy to register it. I’ve done two.

Go on DVLA website and search registering a new/used vehicle. Request a V55/5a (can’t remember exactly) and it’ll arrive in the post and ask for loads of stuff. Only fill in what’s relevant though or you’ll have died of old age otherwise. You’ll need the impossibly rubbish “this bike was built for the UK” letter from KTM- free with a new bike. Add the correct fees and if used an MOT. Send it all off and you get back a V5 a few weeks later. It’s easy.

When you read some of the threads on the web about registering a bike it’d put anyone off but it’s as hard as filling in a cheque - that’s the most painful part!

I can do the check, it's £10.

Now, before you rush off and start doing it there's a few things to be aware of.

1. If it comes back as nicked I will ring the police and tell them you have it. They will then be round to take it away.

2. If it's an EXC and there's no log book you need to be very suspicious; who'd pay all that extra money (over an MX bike) new and then not have it registered?

3. The HPI database searches on exact numbers/letters so if there's a digit which isn't very clear you might need more than one search - at £10 a time.

4. HPI relies on the police, DVLA and insurance companies to supply correct information. If, for example, the police don't put a stolen marker on a vehicle it will show as clear on HPI. This isn't a common problem but I do have my first one right now in that position - it's become a nightmare.

Yes it can be done and it often works out really well. PM me if you want it done.

Yes, need insurance to....

On my 18 xcw I found an insurer who would insure on VIN alone. They don’t like it one bit but will do it. It costs more though. As soon as you have the reg number shop around for insurance. You’ll find it cheaper. Cancel the expensive one and get a refund. Insure with the cheaper one.

I’m using the one SiShaw posted up. MSM? Brilliant broker. Their insurance policy even covers the bike when in competitions/races. Again it’s not the cheapest but they are easy to deal with and tailor make your policy to your circumstances.

The first bike I bought to register myself was owned by a main dealer. He didn’t need to register it as took it in a van to events. It’s not common though.

If you have any doubts at all, walk away. There’s plenty of legit bikes out there with zero hassle.

if not there's a chap on ******* that does it.
as said in above posts be very suspicious if its a enduro bike with 'lost' paperwork and they also contact police if it comes back as nicked.

it's a very handy service to have, especially with the old 2 banger road bikes when v5 and reg gets lost
