When I was a lad, twins were pretty shite, fzr1000 / zzr1100 at 140-150bhp or some Ducati/ bmw with barely more than half that.
Then the 916 came along and it changed everything.
With 160bhp-180 bhp now, you have as much power as you can realistically use available instantly...
A 4 cylinder needs so many revs by comparison it is just slower in the real world and much harder work.
Busa / zzr1400 are pretty grunty in mid-range and fucking fast up top, but feel as if your at walking pace when doing a ton - got rid of my zzr as it could only end with long ban or prison if I rode it in an enjoyable fashion.
I test road a CB1000R before test riding my 990 SD... I bought SD.
Now I must admit I'm tempted by an MT-10 and strangely also a GSX-S1000.
I think test rides could happen next year, once I have saved some money.
Better useable grunt with a V, more fun at lower speeds. Jap 4's liked to be pined for those thrills and that's at high rpm. Very good rider I know has a 650 single he throws around, said its more sensible fun than a Jap thou bike.
Yamaha's CP4 takes some beating as jap IL4's go. Not quite as powerful as a 1290 at the bottom of the rev range but then it's 300cc less but it's the best of any 4, also has a fantastic top end rush as an IL4 should.
