I’ve been through an 1190S, 1290GT and 19,000 miles on a 1290S. Gearing on my 1290S was spot on, no need to drop a tooth on the gearbox sprocket, would run to 160 but as you say preferred to be above 65 in top. The 1290S was the best balance of the 3 engines, a real peach so don’t worry about it. Loads of torque but they don’t like lugging in top gear.
