A friend has a 250F (07) and when the bike is in neutral he can start it and you can see the chain tighten and then go slack then tighten again, it does literally walk accross the floor, if you pull the clutch in the problem is still there, theres no problem with the gears as it goes up and down through the box with ease, can anyone point to the fault, it's got us scratching our noggins. Thanks

Yea, IIRC its the motion of the oil inside the cases that can cause the shafts to rotate even in neutral.

Could be wrong tho.

The oil had been changed so my friend thought he would investigate further, he found (after some digging) that 2 bearings had broken up on the gear train, I'll see if i can get some photos
