Hello all, first off, apologies if this should be in the supermoto section.

I’m set on getting a 2021 300 6 days when they come out in a few months time.
It will be changed to a supermotto when I do.
A bit of background as to how it's going to get used: I live on a small island where the speed limit is 40 mph (64km) It may be used in France 1 or 2 times a year, but not for Enduro.

However, a big question that I’ve had for the last few months and cannot get a answer for is this.
When would the bike roughly need a general service? After a year? 100/200/300 hour’s?

Please note that my heart is set on a 2 stroke, I've had 2t's before and really not interested in 4 strokes (the bike I currently have is a 4t and it doesn't do anything for me).

Many thanks for your assistance.

I've heard from a very good source that 2021 enduro aren't being released this year

Are there any of the other 4-pot callipers from the other bikes you can slip on? Or do you generally need a bracket?

SX suspension better suited than EXC?

Older bike as a project?

Lectron carb is a great mod if you go non-TPI... just jump on it and wring it’s neck.

SM is already a mad bike... why shouldn’t it be two stroke too? Regardless of the impact on service intervals, it would be fun... [emoji41]

No the ideal bike for the desert but....

Yes, 20 years long years ago! I’ve had a Rieju RR and a Aprilia Chesterfield. (Should never of gotten rid off either of them!)

My current bike is a 4t sm but it’s not the same. There’s no power band, and forgive me but it just doesn’t sound like a bike and I just don’t like the ride, my old RR had more guts.
The guys in the bike shops bar one told me that “I’m living 20 years in the past”.

Coming back into motorbikes 20 years later, I personally think everyone has forgotten about 2t’s because 4t’s are easier to maintain.
Times change, but I haven’t.

The tpi might be a disappointment compared to the more lairy 2 strokes of old. The qualities that make it a great enduro bike might make it seem dull in a road going role. They are powerful and light but the delivery is quite linear and the counter balancer makes it smooth and hardly any vibes. I could see how one would be ok to tool around tight roads for short journeys, but would personally just stick some road tyres on the off road rims and see how I got on. Little wheels with sticky tyres and massive brake rotors are a load of money and a bit pointless unless you're planning to absolutely hammer fuck out of it.

Wazza spent a billion pounds getting Kevinyorks to build him a mega 300 smoker superhomo many moons ago. Once he rode it he realised how shit they are on the road and flogged it even quicker than normal.
I did 10 miles on road on a 300EXC and then flogged it as it was wank - wouldn’t have lasted 5 mins being used like that regularly.

Ah come on troops,

There must be someone on here that has a 300 TPI or even 250 sm!
Is it a bottomless money pit that always needs servicing? Which is what everyone is more or less saying
Don't forget that people are not just saying that it will always needs servicing, they are also saying that the bike will be shit to ride! I have a 2013 300 that I use for green laning, this involves some road work, the road work is not much fun and I definitely get the feeling from the bike that if I 'ragged' it on the road the engine would self destruct fairly quickly.

Its your money at the end of the day, you can ignore all the posts on this forum but most of the time most of the people do offer good advice.

I agree mostly with sidecarbod... but I ride my 2015 300 EXC in the desert where a 450/4 would be better and as much as it can be an evil thing when it doesn’t click... when it does, there’s no better feeling. Can’t beat a smoker IMHO. [emoji13]

Later last of the carb bikes have revised frame and balancer shaft, much smoother. Ditch the carb and put a Lectron in it (I did for mine), cheaper base for a project.

Lots of good advice and guys on here... but nothing rational about two strokes either... why not?![emoji1]

a 450/500 would be much better as a SM than a 300

I have supermoto wheels that I stick in my TE250i sometimes. On a straight road it’s total wank but on twisty back roads it’s mega fun. Sticks the the road like shit to a blanket. I had a 450 before that I used them in and I would say both bikes were as fun as each other.
Personally I think riding it on the road will be easier on the bike than riding it around an enduro track. At least it will be getting cooled properly and the clutch won’t be getting abused. As long as it’s geared properly and not revving in the redline all day long.
If it’s what you want just go for it it will leave u smiling from ear to ear.

I had mine husqvarna 300 as a super retard for a while.
I thought it would be crazy, mad wheelies everywhere, backing it out on all the corners etc.
I was wrong. it just felt like my dt230 Lanza but a bit faster and firmer.

on the road it felt nicer with normal sized wheels with road tyres.

as long as it's not being thrashed to death theres no reason it wont do 2000 miles between rebuilds. gear it for 95 ish and it will be quite pleasant to ride.

you'll want a 2017 onwards bike.

if you want a 2 stroke but something more reliable look at either yamaha dt230 or honda crm250.

Nice smoker.
Initially I was happy with normal sized wheels, but I'm a little short arse at 5"7 so unless it got jacked down so low that the front exhaust is scraping along the floor, normal wheels are not going to happen unfortunately.
I'm pretty certain that it won't be getting thrashed to a standard you guys living in country with long twisting roads are accustom to!

I have a TE300i 2020, before that I had both a 2017 EXC250F and a 2019 xc350f, i mostly green lane with odd practise day, hare and hound or motocross, I loved them both but by chance got to ride a 2019 EXC300 TPI.

I sold them both for the TE, it’s smother than the 250, easier to ride than the 350, a pleasure on the road and off road, bloody great.

i never thought I’d own another 2 stroke, but these TPI’s are the best of both worlds. 👍

Cracking bike!
So you sold two 4t's for a 2t 300i, I like your thinking!

You're the 2nd person that has said the TPI is the best of 2 worlds. I think the first was a review by some enduro website though.
