Hello

I have just taken the clutch cover off of my 450 RFS engine (2004) to try and cure a persitent oil leak. On removal of the cover i have noticed that the kick start shaft is very loose, is this normal??

Is it only held solid in place by the clutch cover?

Also the spring on the kick start shaft seems to be touching the cog that the clutch basket is mounted on :frown: Has anyone come across this before and how do i go about fixing it?

Im off to France this weekend on the bike so hopefully I can get it sorted soon!!!

Its normal.

BTW Smear the step on the kickstart shaft with grease to avoid damaging the seal

Thanks for that Kev, that one problem sorted.

I assume this spring shouldn't be touching the this cog??!!

Do I need a new spring, it looks slightly mis-shapen.

when you put the cover on it,ll all line up, look inside the cover as you can see where it sits. I had the same issue.

Panic over, I can relax now.

Just got to sort out this damn leak!

make sure your cover is flat where the gasket sits. Stick it on the kitchen bench or mirror/glass

You said I should check if the cover is flat, I've checked it and I dont think it is!!!

Is this a problem you've had before? I didnt think the clutch cover would be able to warp as it is fairly well attached!

get some wet n dry,mediu/ fine grit. stick it on something flat and rub it. Till the cover is back to normal. Easy job. Haven't had it on mine but have read about it.

They warp because people overtighten the screws
