Just watched it. Deffo taking the extra warranty. Four years if you have it serviced by a ktm dealer
Anouying he was basically told unless ktm service it they won’t cover it….
I hope he sends those cams away to be hardness tested. Trouble is I doubt ktm will release what they should be and there’s no kinda spec or minimum standard in that regard.
The fact there’s a new head out now?!

I read about these failures on the ADV board and put off buying my 790 for 5yr. But at £6999 i could not resist the orange-power :D.

So i am getting engine oil analysed every 4,500 miles to try to catch a big increase in steel particles.
It costs £40 per analysis kit from Millers oils Millers oil linky

I posted on the US 790 board by mistake sorry US 790 board linky

here's my first oil analysis - if others do it and post theirs we may all learn more

I'm having serious doubts about buying a used 890 in the future.

Fook me that was hard work, no followers, so if you open up yours please take some photos of the cams, followers, cam bridge journal surface and cam head journals. Looking at the vid full screen looks like oil starvation so keep an eye out for coolant leaks. The cams are cast in one piece so if the others are OK, then not enough oil on far cylinder, overheats, hardened metal surface looses integrity. Its not your air filter mate, my bet is a leaking WP seal and contaminated oil filter.

Isn't Boron a soap, used in antifreeze?

Be nice to hold of an engine a diagnose why.
It's weird.. looks like a blockage issue (or maybe failing oil pumps) but KTM seem to be treating this like a manufacturing defeat of some cams, or dirt ingress causing the inlet valve guides to become tight.

Either-way I'd be staying clear of any KTM parallel twin for now.. but hoping for a swift & positive resolution as I'd like a 790/890 as a 'run around' in the next few years.
I'd hate to have to buy a Jap PT instead.
