Hi all
I wrote a quick intro in the intro section (surprisingly) earlier

I recently acquired 990 Adventure R
Love it so far
When I bought it - previous owner told me the clocks had been replaced due to previous failure - all good, and I know the true mileage, etc.

I only realised (with the help of a mate) that the replacement clocks are not correct - redline of 8K rpm on the tacho (bike is supposed to redline at 9.5k) - we figured the clocks are off a 690.

My issue is that the clocks are under-reading as far as I can tell (not tested against GPS or anything yet)
Our motorway limits are 120kph and pretty much everyone drives that speed but when I’m at that speed I’m passing everyone. Also out for a spin with a mate recently and we went relatively quick on one section of road - after stopping he said his bike was reading 100+mph (160kph) but I didn’t see above 140kph and we were riding together.
I intend to check with GPS to get this confirmed but assume it’s true for now.

I have 2 questions mainly -
1. can I fix the over-read with a speedo-healer? Is it technical?

2. I wanna pick up a proper set of clocks on eBay but the only ones available seem to be from 990 SM or SMT. Would these under-read the speed too due to different wheel diameters? Or are any 990 clocks suitable?

Hoping someone can help before I shell out €250 on 2nd hand clocks on eBay

Cheers

Stolen from here Speedo Correction

The setting on the speedo. You can change between WS 21, 19 and 17. Stolen from ADV Rider: -

Step one: Mode = Trip F
Step two: Hold both buttons for 5 seconds
Step three: hit "mode" until "19" shows
Step four: Hit "set"

Any use??

I didn’t know about that so I’ll try for sure
I have 21-inch front wheel so I presume I’m choosing 21 i/o 19?
Thanks for the quick reply

This should help

I would try following the instructions before cutting the wire, just in case it works without causing harm.
Input 2205 (which is mm) for 21" wheel if newer than 2009.

Thanks Trousersnake - I'll hopefully get this sorted this week - much appreciated.
