Yes, but they finished making the 2018 model 1290's in 2018, and you can still get a new 2018 in 2020
It seems to me most KTM's are sold the year after they were built, having owned 2 new Adventures, both of which were earlier bikes on later plates.
Not sure if R is any different, but with the S the spec was virtually identical from 15-16 except for some little heat deflectors (about £30) even the colours remained the same, but 15 onwards had the "improved" airbox and uprated starter motor.
