I'm going to get a touring bike. It has to have shaft drive, a big tank 25 litreish and facilities for panniers so that's a GTR1400 or a BMW? Any advice or experiences would be appreciated :scooter:

Depends what you want to spend! you can pick up BMW's for peanuts from time to time.... If you want a cheapie cheapie, I'd have a K100rs for about £1800 with touring gear... ride it for 3 years and sell it for the same as you paid, reliable, robust, built when BM's were built to last forever, comfy and will sit on the autobahn all day at 100mph... The K100 engine range really are bulletproof...

I did a 140 mile trip the other week 120 of which were in properly the worst rain I've ever ridden in. When I got home the chain had next to no lube anywhere, despite me lubing it at the start of the journey. In the past I've had bikes with Scottoilers on them and they have not coped with lesser amounts of rain.

V strom or varedero thingy, buy one get one free for the cost of the kwak. Chain drive I know but 4k buys a lot of chain lube and I know what I'd rather ride thru winter.
