Decent rear brake pads?

Since my standard rear pads wore out on my '04 450 EXC after 4,500 miles I have tried various makes. A friend gave me a set from a later 450 & these were made by Toyo, overstamped with the Brembo name. As these were FF rated, they were next to useless once out in the dirty stuff. So last week I bought some SBS pads, put them in before a ride last Saturday, & I struggled to get any stopping power even on the road before I even got to the first lane. I'd cleaned up the disc in perperation for the new pads, but even by the end of the day they gave little or no stopping power. Once removed, I looked at the markings on the backing plate to see that they are GF rated, so not that much better than standard.

I see that RFX sell rear pads for a reasonable sum, but their catalogue gives no indication of the CoF rating, so i'm not going to chance buying yet more pads with insufficient stopping ability.

Anyone tried Renthal, Apico/GoldFren pads? Are genuine Brembo pads at ÂŁ30 worth the money?

I've just bought some Braking HH rated pads from Talon Engineering for ÂŁ19, so i'll try them & keep my fingers crossed as i'm doing an enduro soon

Proaction are ok at the price. Ktm original ones offer the strongest breaking closely followed by dunlopad. Goldfren have many different grades, they have a chart to show which grade is best for what.

i used the proaction at the snowrun and they lasted ok but that is not sandy going. i fitted new pads for witley as its abrasive there. i know the brake jammed on for a bit and used some up but as soon as it started raining it destroyed the pads to nothing. forgot to add that in my report. also thought it would be unfair slagging them off as the brake did jam on for a bit so it wasn't a true test. my dunlopad fronts are still good to go after three races including witley.

I keep saying this all pads wear quick in the conditions this time of year
But I've tested lots of pads and proaction are jus as good as any and in most cases better in my opinion
I will fit a new set before a race but can get 3 good practices out of them even in this mud
Give them a try Jeremy is a fantastic bloke who provides great products fantastic prices and unbeatable service and customer care.

I also did a virtually new set of rear pads at the Witley event, but stupidly I should've used my solid disc not the vented.

Using a solid disc makes a huge difference on pad wear.

I've been using the Proaction pads for a long time now and they perform consistently well, unless I use a vented disc in winter.

This comes down to disc and can't be blamed on the pad in my opinion.

I've used Braking discs front & rear from mile zero & the braking was excellent & not grabby like others found with the standard discs (which I still have). With this combination i've not had a problem until needing new rear pads. Lots of suppliers don't specify the CoF & if i'd known that the SBS pads that I bought were GF rated beforehand I wouldn't have bought them. I've now got some Braking HH pads from Talon Engineering, so will report back how well these last.

Demon Tweeks sell Armstrong HH pads, as well as RFX & Viper, but as I said above, they don't specify the CoF
