Not sure if this is a daft question but I'm Just about to start my first service on my EXC450, the workshop manual suggests putting the bike on its side to change the oil filters so you can half fill with oil first etc.

Does anyone actually do this?

Cheers

I do, but take the filters out with the bike vertical so the crap that surrounds the filters runs onto the floor, not into the engine!

when your taking out the strainer from under the gear shift to clean it DONT tip the bike, put on a stand to do this one.

theres an "o"ring at the end of the strainer and when you lift it out this breaks the seal, if the bike is on its side as soon as the seal is broken all the crud that the strainer picks up will run into the pump, not good when the object is to get the crud out.

ive seen four ktms through the workshop at my mates place in the last month all suffering engine damage because the pumps failed due to crud.
