EXC wiring loom connectors.......

I am trying to connect the rear number plate light, that came with the bike, to the bike wiring loom. Looking for the 4 pin male connector, that will take power from the existing bike wiring loom, to a 2 pin female connector that will connect directly to the number plate light.

Does anyone know where they can be sourced in the UK?

ÂŁ80 for a new secondary wiring loom......I do not want to cannabalise the secondary wiring loom that came with the bike.

Thanks for your input chaps.......nothing the same on Simtek site or in the spare part manual.

Having found the 2 way connectors online (KTM/Ducati indicator connectors), I now need a couple of the below for 2017 - 450 and 350 EXC-F's.
This plug is the main connector from the bike wiring loom, to the secondary loom, which powers the indicators and number plate light.

I have a couple of the full secondary looms, part no 777.11.081.000 and 777.11.081.100. There are minor differences between them.

The plug you show is 1/2 way down the loom and is on the same section as all the connections for the back end. That includes the indicators, rear light, and number plate light.

Have a look at the loom part nos and see if either looks like what you need.
Does your number plate light look like this or is on a long cable over 2 foot long?

First of all, thank you for taking your time and effort to look into this........

Yep our looms are 777.11.081.100.

The plug is about half way down, as you describe.

The number plate light has a short cable, but the connector is different to the one that you shown (ours are LED lights).

If both of your secondary looms have the 4 way connector, that we require, would you be interested in selling? We really only need the 2 connectors, with as much cable as possible.

Most of the connectors KTM use are made by Molex, you can get them off ebay etc

No problem, I like a puzzle to keep my brain occupied in retirement.

Thinking about it, all you need to do is connect the number plate light across the rear light wiring so that the 2 come on together. You could do that with Scotch locks.

The wiring loom you have will have a connector for the number plate light unless it's been chopped up so you should be 1/2 way there. I have a stock of Molex connectors and old loom bits so may have something that will do.

PM me your mobile number and a photo of the number plate light and we'll see if we can come up with a simpler fix. I have 2 or 3 of the lights as well so that might be an answer.

You are correct, I could easily power up the number plate light by Scotch locking a new 2 way connector to the wiring feeding the brake/tail light.

Ideally I do not want to mess with the bike wiring looms (Scotch locks etc), that is why I thought it would be easier to install a proper permanent fix, consisting of;

Building a cable (wiring loom) that plugs into the bike loom (as per the secondary loom that comes with the bike 777.11.081.100 ) with the Molex connector, permanently route that cable through the bike, to end with a 2 way cable connector close to the number plate.
The original number plate light will be fixed on a legal sized number plate.
Attach that plate to the bike, plug in the number plate to the newly installed 2 way cable end, pass the MOT Test. Remove the legal number plate, protect the 2 way connector open end and reinstall the illegal number plate.
Always carry the legal plate with me and if Plod plays up. install the plate, there and then and away we go.

So if you have a couple of the correct Molex plugs (as in my photograph), with cables attached, that would be super. I can purchase the 2 way number plate connectors online and with your 2 Molex connectors, I could make up my own wring loom, that plugs into the bike loom and then powers up the number plate light only.

I would like 2 Molex connectors, as I would like to do the GF's bike, in the same way.

A crimping tool is useful but I wouldn't bother if you're just doing a few. If you carefully solder the wire onto the open connector with the minimum amount just to tack it into position, you can use some needle nose pliers to fold the tabs over and clamp them down. Once you're happy you can add a bit more solder if you like. Take your time and perhaps order some extra pins as a safety net.

I don't use anything fancy. I bought a box of bullet connectors in the late 70s and it had a simple crimper with it. Ideally, different connectors need different tools so it can get silly.

Before you do anything, check out how the pins lock into the plastic housing in case you need to get them out again. Sewing needles work quite well as the clearances can be tiny.
