Hi Guys, I am looking for a little advice . I have a nice 1985 evo suzuki rm 125, ( apologies its not ktm related as I sold mine recently and will be back in one shortly ). I have a few newbie questions needing answered if possible.

My manual states to use SAE 20w/40 transmission oil. When looking online at motorcycle oils I don't see much 20w/40. Is their an alternative ? I'm sure I overheard someone say that a regular motor oil can be used as is cheap and can be swapped out frequently ?

2 stroke oil to mix with my petrol. Their seems to be so much on offer . what makes one better than the other ? should I be looking for a specific oil as an older engine ?

Coolant. I assume pretty much any motorcycle coolant will do provided it is a mixture of distilled water and antifreeze ?

Thanks .

My experience is that 'gear oil' is poor-quality stuff. Synthetic 'gear oil' ruined the clutch on my two-stroke GasGas by swelling the plates up. Cost me £100 for a new clutch.
This is what I use now, and the clutch has never been better
It's also the cheapest oil I'v ever used in the GG's gearbox.

Note that it has MA approval for wet clutches, whereas I've never seen a 'gear oil' that does. Correct lubrication is critical for the clutch (the wrong stuff can make it swell, slip or drag) whereas pretty much any decent oil will protect the gearbox.

So I'd look for an MA approval first, followed by the correct VI (10W-40 or whatever) and ignore the 'marketing' terms like 'synthetic','race', or 'competition'.
