Now I am, by my own admission, a complete cretin when it comes to anything mechanical/electrical. Theoretically I understand it, but when faced by the physical thing my brain shuts down and I get all puzzled.

So yesterday I've got helmet, jacket, boots, gloves and iPod on; all ready to go play out. Wheels bike out of garage, shuts door, turns key in ignition - NOTHING HAPPENS. Well except for me getting frustrated. So I faff around with all the fuses, all fine. (except for dropping one and having to unscrew something to retrieve it then screw it back on - this being a considerable feat considering my technical prowess) So I ring the KTM assistance people. They send the man in his van and he goes through the same checks I do and comes to the same conclusion - it's not working.

He phones the office, I phone Route 55 and the van takes the bike the 60 miles there. They put it on the diagnostic and everything was tickety boo. The van man then rung me up and said that we both had to hang our heads in shame............

KILL SWITCH!!!!!! :rotflmao:

Anyway, the insurance company authorised the bike to be brought back and everything is good with the world. :D

I went out on the birds bike. (BMW f650GS) I compare it to drinking supermarkets own brand beer. It's still beer but it's crap!

Rode a real bike to work today and smiled all the way!

Has anyone else done anything even vaguely comparable with this level of stupidity???????????

I had a lodger who was fanatical about turning off the kill-switch when the bikes were garaged.

On the electric start road bike it wasn't too big an issue, but on the kick-start DR350 I was jumping up and down on it for ages before I noticed that the (small, push button) kill switch was in instead of out.:redface:

Peeler, you wouldn't believe it mate, buying a 690 DUKE with spoked wheels was about the least stupid gaffe I've made . . .

My latest, which, by my own pathetic standards is a cracker. I bought a rad guard for my new Tuono, fitted it and pierced the rad when screwing it back on, water pissing everywhere. So the device I bought to protect my radiatir has killed it because I'm a retarded, low-skilled, fat fingered baffoon. When will I ever learn not to touch ANYTHING on my bike . . . hopefully it can be repaired . . .

Years ago, a mate's dad had his Honda 400/4 in the dealer cos it wouldn't start - that turned out to be the kill switch. Shame faced, he proceeded to ride away from the shop, the wrong way down a one way street - with the side stand down!

When on a ski-ing holiday in Austria years ago I asked in the hotel bar to know where their cigarette machine was. It turned out to be down at the end of a dark corridor but a locked GLASS door prevented me gaining access.
I returned and gave the barman dog's abuse for sending me on a wild goose chase when the door was locked.
Imagine my embarrassment when the puzzled barman (and a few of the puzzled locals) escorted me down the dark corridor to the brightly lit cigarette machine which was on the INSIDE of the glass door.

That's two of us for the muppet show.

Been that muppet for a quarter of a second when my bike wouldn't start. Found the accidentally off switch alright though.

Been a real arse some years ago when I angrily walked my dead new KLR back to the shop just to be told there's no more gas in it. Yes, I was clean.

Thats nothing, there was a kid on the 125cc forum i frequent who couldnt get his RS125 to start. He dropped the whole engine out, rebuilt it with alot of new parts, stripped the loom, checked everything, reassembled the whole bike, spent about a week doing it and it still didnt work. Then realised the killswitch was on.

A muppet for a non-mechanical but crime against design...I saw a little 125cc scooter with an R6 front end on it last week. It looked like it had been put on by a muppet too!
