What's the deal with these?
Are they any good for fast touring, do they stack up against the GS and new 1290 Adventure S or are they more comparable to the BMW RT?
How do they handle and do they do skids and wheelies?

Basically a bored out 1190S with bigger tank, semi active suspension, cruise control and cornering lights - and a fair bit heavier than the 1290S

If you don't need the 300+ mile tank range the 1290S is a better bike, lighter, more compact, smoother (significant changes to the LC8 for 2017, my 1290S is noticeable smoother than my 1190S) TFT Screen.

Motorway touring with 3 boxes on I can easily top 200 miles at an indicated 90mph by which time I will be wanting a stop anyway, slightly slower cruising (80mph) will see it make about 240-250 miles.

If your commuting 60 miles a day to work the T makes more sense, and I expect they can be had for good money, but for sporty touring and ragging around the 1290S would be the better bike, plus who wants a White KTM FFS?

Oh, of course it is much better than a GSA / GSA, way more powerful and much faster, plus the bottom end of the 1290 (T or S) is out of this world, I found the 1190 a smidge more exciting in the way it built power, but the sheer stomp of the 1290 is a different kind of fun - it will pick up the front wheel from about 3k in 3rd gear, turn off the TC and it should be an amazing burnout / wheelie bike - but the S will probably do this better as well.

I chopped my 990R in for a 1290T. Absolutely love it! Huge range - 300 miles +, super comfy, stupid quick. Getting used to the size took a while, but wring it’s neck and it repays you in bucketloads. Love it almost as much as my old 950.

Problem with having a T is unless you travel alone you end up stopping because your mates / Mrs needs fuel.

I was OK on my annual tour with the Mrs as her TDM would roughly match my 1190, and the last 2 years as we had 2 Adventures (1090 & 1190 in 2018 and 1190 and 1290 in 2019)

I think the 23L of the standard bikes is about right, I can do 2 hours at @80mph on the Motorway and still have 60-70 miles to find fuel, and or more than one occasion I have found a service station closed and been glad of the sensible tank size.

The problem with bike with a "200 mile range" when that is when they conk out is that your looking for fuel after 90 minutes on the motorway, my GS was bad for that, especially in the days when we were two up and it was struggling to have a theoretical range of 180 miles and the light was coming on by 140.

300+ is way more than my arse / legs / wrists can handle.

Jackie (my other half) has a Tiger 800, we found on last years tour, she could do 220/230 before needing to refuel. The 990, I’d be stopping at 130/140 - drove me nuts. / 950 160/170 tops. Enjoying the 1290, super fun, been enjoying the heated seat over winter (Things you never you needed).
