Hi There

I am in the process of looking to purchase a KTM250 EXC-F & am trying to work out what the obvious visual differences are from different year models.

I am looking for something in between 05-08.

I understand that an 05 bike can be registered in lets say 2007 therefor it will be advertised as an 2007

Any advise would be mush appreciated.

250 EXC-f will on be from 2007 year bike onwards mate.

If engine number starts with 8.. its an 08

The engine number starts with model year,
then 3 digits for engine type
then 5 numbers

Frame number has VBK to start
then MXN or similar for model type

then 4 for 4 stroke or 2 for 2 stroke

then two numbers

then model year

then M

then 6 numbers that you tell a KTM dealer and he tells you the original engine number, supplying dealer, first owner, date of manufacture, date of sale etc

if you are going to copy an old post of mine at least give me credit ;)

easiest way to tell the old 250 is the spark plug is on the right, later ones are on left

Late in 2006 model year the twin cam EXCF came along. So you can find 06 250 EXCRacing (the old RFS motor) and 06 250 EXC-F (the new twin cam motor).
