Ktm 950 oil pressure light flickering

Had a run out on the bike yesterday & all was well.

I just went to go for a quick blast then & when I started it up I thought this lights taking a while to go out & it's getting noisy, probably ran for 10 seconds. So I crapped my pants & turned it off.

I thought let's give it another chance & tried again but the light kept flickering so I shut it down.

I quickly checked the oil level & it seemed a bit high.
Bikes done 30,000 & I've had it for 13,000.
didn't have time to check much more after that as tea was getting cold round the parents house!
Where should I start looking? Oil filter?

ok cheers for the info kev, i will get on it. can anyone recommend cheap place to get ktm parts online? i normally go to triple d but I'm sure they charge a lot.

i will probably have a go myself Charlie, keep me off the streets!

if its lasted 30,000 on the original kit I'm sure it will do 30,000 again so i dont see the point in the cj kit either

Treat the case carefully when putting the new bearings in, seen some butchered. Support the bearing housing, think I used three bits of wood. You don't need any fancy stuff to remove the impeller, remove the whole case, support the case around the impeller..couple of bit of wood. Remove the rear cir-clip on the shaft and using a punch or fat screw driver knock the shaft out...this will remove the seal aswell cos of another cir-clip.....put the shaft in a vice and easily undo the bolt, loosen the vice and knock the shaft out out.......No idea why the manual shows all these special techniques....if you're replacing the shaft.

When I did mine the shaft was very sharp on the end, nicked thehttp://www.ktm950.info/how/Orange%20Garage/Cooling%20System/waterpump/Rebuild/ktm_water_pump.html seal going on doh!!! Luckily brought two after reading Kevs tip on just changing the seal, bit of luck that. Ended up taking the burr of with a fine file and some emery. Lucky I noticed it before I put it all back together. I burped my bike on the side stand too, as couldn't quite get the wheel height. About a week later did a little off road and the coolant drop in the tank by half, took off the clutch etc all was fine, must of had a little air lock somewhere and the off road jolting must off freed it.

Follow Pyndons post on advrider(link in this thread), I did mine using basic tools, the oven and the freezer.

made good and bad progress today. first problem was the exhaust heat shield bolts, got 2 out of 3 and had to drill the 3rd one ( the one furthest back). think I'm going to shorten the heat shield now so i never have to remove it again.

couldn't get the impeller off using standard methods, must have been too stuck on after 30,000 so i need a new one of those now after using the big screw driver method.

after getting the case off i thought id get the shaft out, couldn't find my external circlip pliers so went to halfords and bought a set, got home and id bought internal pliers! at least I've got two sets of them now (when i find the others).

so I've called it a night, bought a sack full of san miguel to mull over what damage i can cause tomorrow.

i have just bought a 950 with the exact same issues, i did about 80 miles yesterday and just i got home the oil light started to flash and when the bike was put on its side stand a load of coolant poored out of the over flow pipe, ive booked it into wayne mounters in pontypridd cos i dont trust me self to fix

Now there's a question..Get a trailer is the best bet, or RAC man or the like.
Me, I would make sure the oil is topped up and water is topped up and go gently, taking more premixed coolant along for the ride, but I only live 10 Miles away.
Good luck! (I ran mine with a coolant leak for a week, kept topping it up every other day, till it was done, but mine never spat its dummy out like yours) Ask Kenny see what he reckons.
