This has probably been done to death only I couldn’t find much on here so that’s my excuse for asking, and a suitable charger?

I have an optimate lithium but I've had two batteries die after 6 months and I think it's because I was charging them every weekend. My third lasted a year and is still perfect with almost never charging it.

Although, after hearing of someone who almost lost their bike to a lithium battery fire, I've replaced mine with a lead acid. It works as good if not better than the lithium and I'm confident it won't set fire to my bike/garage/house.

The extra weight is negligible.

Its after market just came out and just arrived. Panthera is the company. Been waiting ages over 6months! Its using the 2016 Ktm starter (yeah they’re shit) but the rest is their own design and it’s well made from what I’m looking at. recommended to do the Ktm ‘wet mod’ like on the pre17 Ktm smokers - you know the with atf oil. Anyways, I’ve fitted the new stator getting a spark so all good so far. I’ll make further progress tomorrow done enough spannering today time for a film and some large glasses of red wine.

......o yeah Panthera are nobs, they’ve spoken with Yamaha about the kit which to me if they sell loads good old Yamaha will probably want some of the action, can see the kit appearing in the yam power parts catalogue.

If you need to charge a lithium often then either you have a drain on the battery or the charging system isn't good enough. They will last several months without being charged.

They are all shite and expensive. Get a good quality lead acid battery and save money. I had two Shido's (one died after 6 months the other after 18 months) and two from Skyrich (OEM equipment) both died after one year.
They are light, they are not stronger than a good lead acid battery. The Skyrich of my Gasser costs 170 quid.

I fit Shido into both my old Husabergs about 5 years ago. They had little use back then and even less recently. Both bikes had a full year of not being started and then 5 days of use twice in succession. No fresh fuel or easy start. Never failed to start. Never charged other than in use.

A yusas 5 will not fit my new battery box. The recommend battery from Panthera is:

Antigravity Batteries AG-801 Lithium-Ion Powersports Battery, Sm...

Its £162 on Amazon!

Update: i temporarily connected a battery to test to see if leccy start works and I’ve not wasted my money - it works. The bad news is I’m having probs sealing the magneto cover stopping gear oil leaking out. The cables go into a rubber gromit via the bottom of the case, it’s a worst case scenario for sealing! At least on the Ktm the cables in at the top of the case. The original cover leaked badly but didn’t need sealing, I don’t think I’m going to be able to sort it, but if any of you have some recommendations?

They're a royal pain in the arse to ship. I ship laptops overseas through my work, and half the time they come back again because of the batteries. And that's within the EU. You now need to ship them with a Dangerous Goods Certificate. Your USA supplier probably has even more hassle shipping into the UK/EU and can't be arsed with it.

Updates: I’ve located another supplier this time in the uk of the Antigravity 8 cell lithium battery. I’m having to use this battery because of the limitations of my air box size - Thanks for the recommendations.

I’ve had a second attempt last night at sealing the magneto cover and am hoping when I get home I’ve not got 250ml of gear oil on the garage floor. On a not so good note, I had a dead short on the original lighting loom blowing a fuse which took some tracing to resolve (nothing to do with new leccy start loom) The new rectifier has a spare DC output cable which I’ve soldered a connection to the lighting loom and as an extra precaution ive ordered a earth strap lead for a Ktm (doesn’t need it). The lights are now well bright and the horn is loud the old stator had dog shit wattage output.

Next job is the spare front wheel needs new spaces made.
