Long shot, but does anyone know how pressurised oil gets into the crankshaft ?
My engine is totally stripped down (and I mean totally), to remove aluminium contamination in the oil (see my Yoyodyne slipper clutch thread).
For the life of me, I can’t see how pressurised oil gets into the crank, to lubricate main and big end bearings.
According to the repair manual (a diagram/schematic), pressurised oil goes to the crank and the heads (common oil pump) – I can see the oil ways/drillings to the jets under the pistons and up to the heads but not the crank.
When installing crank bearing shells there is a lot of emphasis on lining up holes in the shells to be vertical (with respect to the V of the engine casings) – I’m not removing the shells as they look in good nick. Looking through the holes in the shells all you can see is engine casing (ie. NO oil way) so what’s the point of alignment?
I’m so confused (and thick – maybe I shouldn’t be tearing down engines).
Somebody with the ‘knowledge’ please put me out of my misery.
