Hi,Everybody got a real irritating noise when changing up from 1st gear on my smt.It dosen't matter what revs you give it in 1st gear as soon as you give it some throttle in 2nd the engine sounds like a bag of spanners until you are up the rev range so you can't ride it around town unless you are revving it'too much in 2nd.the dealer says the noise goes if you keep the chain correctly adjusted but this dosen't cure it.I heard maybe going up one tooth on the gearbox sprocket to 18 will make it pick up better does anybody know if this is true and does it affect the speedo reading, any help please as this noise is embarrasing at best at worst you can't ride it under 30 in a built up area, thanks in advance.

A smaller front sprocket (16tooth) would make it pick up better.Wear earplugs , buy some noisy zorsts and avoid the town riding.Jobs a good'un.

I think you were misinformed.
You would indeed want to go one tooth down to make it pick up better.
Changing the gearing will not affect your speedo.
