In my opinion, any good quality semi synthetic oil of the right viscosity will be fine . Aussie Dave on the KTM SMT forum wrote a good little article about bike oils, worth a read. Motorex stuff is an absolute rip off !.

 

Best oil to use in them at the moment. Motul 7100 Ester.

 

Agreed about the motorex but i think my bike has to have fully synthetic,either way it's a great saving and more readily available,i cannot get any motorex in my town but everybody sells motul and silkolene.

I use that in my 990 & 1190.

 

I've used Repsol 10w-50 and currently have Silkolene 10w-50 in my '16 Reg 1290 GT. No problems with either and cheaper than Motorex.

Why? Do you put Guinness in yours? 😂 seriously I don’t think the repsol 4T is a Ester oil, although the silkolene is. That’s it from me, can’t do another oil thread. 😏. But I could do a Guinness!

 

Anyone using ELF MOTO 4 Tech 10w-50? It is cheap (£28 for 4 litres) and more importantly appears to have the correct specifications (API SN, JASO MA2).

 

I’ve used that in my 990 in the past with no issues.

 

Motul 10/60-7100 in my 1290s. i used Motul 15/50-5100 in my 1200 multistrada, did 90,000kms and at oil changes (5000kms) it would of only used 250mls.

 

You should always use the correct hot spec say 50 if the manufacture states, ie 10w-50 or 15w-50 in synthetic oils. Group IV and V oils start with a base oil at the higher hot weight and then additives are added to moderate its cold weight. Unlike mineral or semi-synthetics which is the other way around.

OP, the Swiss Gold Cheese makers, they dont release a product description just safety data sheet. For the money you can buy Group V Ester synthetic oil which is superior, so Motul for example. I stopped using the Swiss Gold Cheese when the bike was out of warranty. If you are happy to spend say £50 on 4ltrs of synthetic but can get 8ltrs of semi for the same price and do an oil change twice as often, so half the mileage....the latter is better.

 

I use this stuff - cheap enough and good.

I've been using the 10w60 version of this in my 350 exc-f. Full spec, just not paying for a fancy name on the bottle.

I have been tempted by the price of Westway a few times but so far haven't been able to bring myself to use a 'non-named brand' oil in my 990 & 1190.

Best I've managed so far (for my DRZ) was a shit load of Castrol fully synth 10W40 that I bought for about £2.30 a litre on clearance from my local Tesco filling station.
I end up with about 10 bottles.. still got 6 left now.

 

I wouldn't sweat it, Ive used diesel car oil when in a fix, no issues.
