Multibike Insurance Trap

It's that time of year again ..........

I've mentioned this before, but here's my story again just as the pain of "reminders" hits

For many years I had several (4 actually) stand alone bike policies that each earned "no claims" bonuses ...... 2 of them actually had the max NCB of 9 years.

2 years ago my broker said "why dont you save money by going onto a multi bike policy". "Great idea" methinks, saved me about ÂŁ150, "sign me up" I said.

1 year ago the same broker refused to cover my 690SMC ..... so back to 2 policies

Here's the rub - Consolidating down to 1 policy wipes out all the NCB's on the other bikes - So you start again FROM SCRATCH when you open another policy.

Guess what. Savings wiped out and now paying more than the old "4 policy" method.

Note to self ....... never trust people "just trying to be helpful"

The Norwich Union Rider Policy back in the 70’s was great.
Fully comp to ride any bike whether it was yours or not.
It was a tad dearer than a single bike policy but oh so flexible. I don’t think you even needed to tell them what your bike(s) were.

Most multi bike policies don't seem to be proper multi bike any more anyway. Just a small discount and NCD taken into account for each additional bike. Remember when ebike were online only. Insured first bike then ÂŁ20 for each additional bike (max 5) and could change / remove bikes online free of charge
Insurance providers will always find ways of screwing you over . . . .

RH seem good so far.
At least one classic bike needed but is at a good price. Extra bikes are peanuts and no charges.
Part of Hiscox but looks like it’s run by a woman with three sidekicks, all into bikes.
No stupid locked up during the day rule either, just the acceptable night time one.
