Once you find tdc, whatever way you do it, then you can go at both intake and exhaust clearances right? I keep reading the odd bit of stuff that seems to indicate finding 2 different points for intake and exhaust.

In my head your looking to do your clearances at the tdc of the compression stroke. When this is happening both intake and exhaust valves are closed like below right..?

Yes, but 360 crank degrees later (which is 180 cam degrees later) the piston will be at TDC again, but that TDC is no good for doing the tappets cos the valves are on overlap.

So watch the inlet valve, as you turn the engine over in the normal direction you see it open and close, then the next TDC is the correct one.



Safest way if you are not sure is to use the method I put in technical, where you dont use TDC, but look at the other valves.....
