IPM 2.4

It seems that the EUroprats want to get all MoTs in the EU to be standardised, so've come up with this little beauty. It's a bit overcomplicated to understand if you've had a beer or two or three, but they give you 90 minutes to complete it.

The BMF & MAG suggest that the EU may well prefer all EU states to follow the German TuV procedures, which can be very stringent, especially on non-conforming modifications & home made parts.

TUV is a nightmare, if you change your indicators then you can only buy TUV approved indicators that come with a certificate, this gets included into your log book. If you get stopped and the copper "Vants to ze your papers" then you have to show the logbook and the indicator certificate. If you dont have the certificate then you get fined. If you dont have the certificate you get fined per certificate that is missing.

If you change 5 things on your bike then that could be 5 fines and the bike is off the road until its "fixed"

At MOT time everything you have changed is charged at approx 15 euros per mod, so every year you have to pay for the mods you have done, even if you paid fro them last year.

What else does this mean:
It means no more smaller companies making nice products because they cant afford to get the TUV approval certificates - all their products have to be tested in a government facility for tens of thousands of pounds, when they make a new product if it is very similar to the other products already tested they can get a special certificate that states it has passed but if it then fails and gets reported then big trouble.

If you totally rebuild your bike with hundreds of mods then every year you pay alot of money to the government for f*ck all

This is why you see so many totally outrageous German streetfighgter bikes, you would think they would hardle touch them but they go the other way and change everything so that no copper or government MOT type body can be arsed spending hours upon hours checking every last number. The tester only gets paid the same for the MOT test whether it is a few minutes or a day so they just sign them off as being ok.

Which makes the whole lot total bollocks anyway. Next time you see a really tricked up german bike at the TT ask to see his papers, it will be like an encyclopedia

This is also why you get massive german tuning firms as the little guys cant afford to open a business so only poepl with big bank loans can produce parts, you either dive in with massive debt or work for someone esle.

Thank you for the above post - most informative. Every time you see a government 'consultative' document or exercise you can guarantee that those in power already have the 'answer' they want - consultation is a sham or maybe even a scam.
