Hi Guys n Gals,
New to the forum and about to purchase my first RC8 after moving across from Jap bikes.

I'm struggling a bit with model history and have searched and searched to no avail!

As far as I can tell in 2008 to 2010 there was an RC8 and and RC8R, the R being a trick, track focussed version with lots of nice parts and a bigger motor.
The standard RC8 was replaced in 2010/11 with the RC8R. This 'new' RC8R from 2010 on was not as trick as the original RC8R but used the larger 1190 CC engine with revised fueling and some suspension geometry changes.

I'm looking at a 2012 RC8 tomorrow but I'm not 100% clear on what spec it should be.

Is there such a thing as an RC8 2012 or will it be an RC8R?

Hopefully someone can explain?

Thanks

there is no such thing as 2012 RC8 it will be a late registered bike. You'll know if it's a normal RC8 as it will be one of 3 colours - white with black tail, black all over or orange with black tail. Also the RC8R has R graphics on it :)

Most people say the original Rc8R's are the best one to have due to lighter wheels :)

You're pretty much correct.
I just have the perspective from the US but it is just about the same.

2008 RC8: There were 50 initial RC8's shipped to the US. 1145cc in Orange
2009 RC8 in Orange, White or Black and RC8R in Black/White introduced. R was 1190cc, forged wheels & top clamp, coated forks, different body work (color)
2010 RC8, RC8R and RC8R Limited in Red Bull & Akrapovic livery. Limited were produced 100 each numbered although jury is out if all were actually built. 25 each for US market.
2011 RC8 dropped. New RC8R combines spec of both with cast wheels & clamp and a new 1190cc heavier flywheel engine with dual plug heads. Black or White.
2012 Same as '11
2013 Same as '12 except one color offered White/Orange/Black combo similar to HMC RC8R Superbike being campaigned in the US. Slipper clutch added.
2014-2015 Same as '13.
No 2016.

I think I got that right - not sure if there were any differences for the EU.

There I fixed it for you. Sorry for being pedantic :D

Thanks for the updates guys. I'm pretty sure then that's its a late registered RC8. Its white with a black frame and when I do a DVLA search on the reg it states its 1150cc.
So what does that actually mean in term of spec difference?
Engine will be single spark and 1150cc?
Anything else?

Correct and being a later model standard RC8 it should have the softer rear suspension spring (much needed). These models can be tuned with aftermarket exhaust to c. 150bhp, but most of all offer fantastic value for money :) ... As with most bikes, even better value if someone has already replaced the exhaust, fitted any carbon, 'performance' parts or orange bling ;)
