Evening all, thinking of buying a 690 Duke as it seems like fun....

Had a few KTMs in the past but always liked a single so why wouldn't I but one ??

If a manufacture had to build a worse bike, this would be it. Unless the overly electrically complex range of 2020 + adventure bikes takes over? The 690 will go down in history as unreliable and troublesome. However, if your very lucky seems some owners have experienced the warm glow of ownership. Happy Xmas one and all.

I have had a couple and currently own a 701 svartpilen...all mine have been reliable but they do seem to be a bit sketchy gearbox is wank but you get used to it, good suspension and brakes helps that they are light... proper fun on back roads bearable on motorway ..buy a late one Early ones were vibey newer ones are counterbalanced and seem to be more robust

That was rough as fuck. I spent £75 on nuts, bolts and fastenings in the first 48 hours. I spent most of the 48 hours cleaning it. It came up mostly ok.

But then it sheared the radiator mount bolt in the frame along with 5 mins later doing 1 of the tank impregnated captive bolts.
I ended up then finding more and more things that were needing replacing and sent it back to the dealer.

The week after I bought a brand new mt07.

Do I miss the 690, yeah in some ways, they're bloody brilliant. But the mt07 is so so easy to own, ride and use. It's very similar in power but not quite as fun, however when I walk over and press the button it does exactly what it's supposed to, time and time again.

Over the 5 690s I've owned I had no issues at all with 3, the 4th I had software/electric gremlins and the 5th was the one above. Nothing wrong as such but had been neglected.

Hi mate, not sure how you could check when you go to buy it but make sure it doesn’t stink of fuel! I’ve just brought a 2016 newer model 690 and the tank it so warped it pisses fuel out where the filler bolts on! It’s covered by a trim so hard to check but trying to save you the pain I’m suffering at the moment!
I’ve only ridden mine about 5 miles but seems good fun,
Cheers

I have the same letter and my recall had also been done so I thought the same, but no this is different, I’m not trying to put you off but I’m also trying to help you potentially having to pay over £600 for a new fuel tank!
I can add some pictures of mine if you like but unless the seller is prepared to remove some tank trims you won’t be able to see
