Is anyone riding off road with a replacement knee ? Not hard enduro stuff, just tracks and trails. I'm asking because I've just bought a 690R enduro having had knee surgery 6 months ago. I haven't been out on the bike off road yet, so have no idea how it'll be. I'm ok on the road.

I know a chap who had double knee replacement and still goes off-road mountain biking. He is a hard bastard and does take some pain killers, but he figures it's only pain as there is nothing left in their to wear out (other than stainless steel).

He does wear knee braces though, I think it's to protect where it all bolts/screws into the bone...

Ride ride ride, nothing worse than use it or loose it, just lost my Big Brother to cancer which I put down to his stubbornness to not doing physio after a knee/carpel tunnel operations, stubborn twat

“Death starts in the legs” don’t know who first said it, but after a lifetime of military/fitness/representative sport/Sport Billy give me any challenge; I had a recent very near terminal health scare I’m on a mission to cycle Alpe d'Huez next year when I’m 65, lost 2 stone already, feel a million dollars, currently in Portugal looking at all the fat fucks around the pool half my age and seriously have never felt better, I could eat a Mastodon for breakfast; go for it

My right knee is a bit knackered (the left quickly following) to the point I couldn’t kickstart my old Bonneville.
Trail riding on my 690 was fine for my low level of ability but I sat down most of the time. Standing involved a bit of rocking to and fro and then a good pull on the bars. Once standing, I was ok for a decent distance but didn’t get any pain whereas going up and down stairs makes me look a bit more geriatric than I already am.

I would say the main thing is don’t push too hard or long too soon (now now you lot ) and, as suggested, maybe investigate pukka knee braces. I assume you are getting physio so they should be able to advise.

And don’t fall off!

My only point of reference is my three month old replacement hip, though I think I still can comment. I have taken to heart the recommendations of the physical therapists and exercise daily. I talked to the surgeon that did the replacement and have listened to him. Keep in shape, pay attention to your body (if it hurts, quit it; you know what I mean), and have fun. If you're paying attention to your knee and your health, you'll be ok.
