Rockwell Race, Enduro / motocross Brake Discs

we are in the process of producing a batch of KTM lookalike brake discs and just thought we would test the water to see if many people would be interested in purchasing them before making a production batch.

our race engineering company decided to start making them as we are fed up of buying the cheap internet ones that are poor material and not heat treated and soft, so only last 6 months and go out of shape or wear out in no time.

ours are made totally in the UK from 420 stainless steel, (which is one of very few grades of stainless steel that can be properly hardened) then lazer cut, and then hardened and tempered back to 33 Rockwell so that they are slightly harder than the genuine KTM discs (27 Rockwell) Which means they will last longer than original KTM discs but will still allow the brake pads to bite.

We have made 6 test sets, standard and solid, and have had a couple of guys test them, (including ourselves) i ride in the expert class at local enduros, Dawn to Dusk 24 hour, and greenlane quite regularly, they stop as good as the originals and have had no signs of wear yet apart from just taking the heat treatment colouring off the disc pad area.

also, due to the better materials, superior heat treatment and wear properties, we have been able to reduce the rear disc thickness to 3mm so the front and rear discs are the same and fit all model KTM`s from 92 / 2012 all SX and EXC models

The brake pads that were used when testing are the cheaper sintered pads that KTM supply made by RFX and cost approx £12 each, these worked very well in testing with the Rockwell discs, but all makes and materials of pad will also be great

discs will cost £40 each + £3 postage each or £80 a pair + £5 postage

from our testing so far, we believe the material and heat treatment of these discs will out last the standard KTM parts with the same performance, and the price is realistic for a quality properly engineered product.

later this month 2 sets are off to morocco for a 3,000km off road test, so will post results from the continued testing

please let us know your views and any interest in these discs, which will give us some feed back before proceeding with our production

thank you

one more question, which ones would you be interested in? open (standard) or solid, or one of each?

Open - the holes are there to dissipate the heat and cool the disc as it goes thru the pads, ideal for fast open tracks with hard braking, but still a good allrounder.

solid - no holes which means more disc in contact with the pad and doesn't take the mud/sand/grit thru with it, so means longer lasting pads and disc, ideal for winter laning, sandy/muddy tracks, beach races ect.

have tested both recently and both seem to be as good as each other and depends on what type of terrain you ride the most

we will be taking a set of each across morocco so will update with results

We now have a test rider using a new set of Rockwell discs riding at Weston beach race to test the performance and wear characteristics at possibly the most abrasive race of the year, so will be an excellent test of duability.
