Hi lads
My sdr has the full evo system and on throttle shut off it pops and bangs.i just thought it was how it was .but today I was told that it needed the sas delete as the welds on the exhaust may blow due to gases.
Can anyone explain what the sas does and if this is correct.
If I do need them where do I get one from and can I fit them myself.they look simple to do!
Thanks

Doing the block off plates is a "done thing" on most bikes if your serious about getting it running properly its the first step as not having the block off plates in messes with any dyno work that could possibly be carried out on the bike. Admittedly fitting the block of plates will reduce the popping and banging by at least half I would say (I've done the block off plates to both my z1ooo and rsv4 factory). Sometimes the SAS system can be simply "plugged" with a bolt or ball bearing (the cheap way of doing it) but, the block off plate way means the associated rubber pipework can also be removed increasing airflow over the engine. My rsv4 now runs a few degrees cooler than It used to.....if I've got anything wrong feel free to step in and correct me.

Not sure about the statement about the exhaust gasses blowing the pipe....that sounds a bit bullshit as I ran my zed without block off plates for a good 6 months or so...

Did you get the Akra map with it, was it fitted by the dealer? The full Akra comes with plates and air filter from the dealer. It should be all done?
I'd get the dealer to fit the plates and the map if it hasnt been done. Better for warranty too. It also looks better with plates and no pipework.

The SAS system pumps a bit of air in the exhaust outlet to help burn off any unburnt fuel in the exhaust. For cleaner emissions.
It works in conjunction with the CAT. If the CAT is removed, its useless.

Yes it's got the akra map on,like I say I pops quite a lot ,but I'm not sure if that's just what it's ment to sound like!
The bike is a 2016 model and the system has been on from new,it's done about 5000 miles as it is so it might be alright.ill contact dealer to check.
Thanks lads!

Get it mapped, its the best thing youll ever do...obviously the net result will be more horsepower but, it'll make it 10 times more "driveable" - any bike i own, gets mapped, its pretty well the first thing i do after ive done the SAS, exhaust and air filter....not sure where in the world you are but Hilltop will remap an SD

Loss or not, it needs to be done if theyre not in there! Get the plates on order and strip the bike. Ive not got an SD are they the same as other bikes....ie on my rsv4 and z1ooo the quick cheap way of doing it is to cut the pipe and stick a bolt in there....if that can be done he could do that as a short term fix but as ive said its the cheapskate/bodge way of doing it IMO.

Burner, as said before the sas delete is part and parcel of buying a full EVO system. Dealer should of done it for you. How do you know it has the EVO map too come to think of it? I'd get that checked.

Can't really tell from your avatar, forgive me, it is the full system (it does look like one) and not the slip on Akra can that came standard with the SE is it?

I spoke to the dealer today,I got a box of original parts which I've not checked which the blanking plates are in.he said it was re-mapped with the full system.the guy who had it last didn't want the delete on ,he preferred the popping!
If I want it done I can take it back and have them fitted.not having it done he said will have no ill effect on the bike,so it's up to me,I've just got to book it in .
Like I said bike done about 5000 miles as is so I didn't think it would be a big problem.

I do like the popping, but I think I'll get the blanks on justo be safe.
Yes bermo I,love the bike, but coming from the 690 I seem to run a bit wide on the corners at the moment,so I need to get used to how it handles .ive not been out more that 4 hours since I got it .not had it in race mode yet!
