Hey all. I've slightly fallen in love with KTM Duke 790 and am pretty set on this being my next bike.

But every time I mentioned this I get warned off... that it will break etc. I know there can be coolant leaks and issues with front disc? Also understand that 2018 has e.g. quick shift as standard but later models don't? But a bit confused.

I basically want all the fun things. I've never had quickshift and not sure I need/want it? But would like all the modes, track, street, rain etc. Turn on/off abs/wheelie control.

I'm looking at a 2018 with 15k on clock for ÂŁ4.8k but could stretch a bit more. (I should also mention I don't have garage (only a covered parking spot) and live near the sea so...). I also don't live near an official KTM dealer.

I'm hoping some of you wonderful people can help with what year/model/extras to go for? And anything else I need to look out for/I should be asking? (or whether this post should be elsewhere!).

Thanks so much!

All I know about the 790 is what I’ve read and it seems to have had a few problems but then The bike your looking at has done 15k so in my thinking it might be ok.
Talking of kTM reliability I used to own a 990 super duke 09 model and never had a problem.
The main thing to be aware of is knowing what issues that the model bike your buying might have and keep an eye out for these problems like the 990 had a water pump seal problem that I was aware of but my bike was ok right up to when I sold it so it was never a problem for me.
The other thing is living near the ocean is that any bike doesn’t matter what brand will suffer with some sort of corrosion but like you are saying if you keep it covered it should be ok.
Anyhow good Luke with your purchase 👍

I’ve had 2 790’s and they’ve been great bikes any pre 2023 will have all the so called tech pack you had to pay extra from this year on.
if you’re buying one with a few miles on as said already the niggles should’ve been sorted.
I’ve an 890r now but can honestly say I would’ve been happy keeping the 790.
