I have received my 1390 EVO now, and have put some miles on it. My early impressions compared to my "old" 2023 1290 EVO are:

The most noticeable difference is the handling. The bike feels super light compared to the 1290. Even though its 1kg heavier, the bikes feels 20kg lighter when flicking the bike side to side. I do not know how much this difference is due to the Power GP tyres as I haven't tested those before. I ran S22, Rosso 4 and Rosso 4 Corsa on the 1290. It will surprise me if this is only due to the tyres as the "flickability" on the 1390 is drastically improved over the 1290.

The difference in power is not that big and I would say its not worth an upgrade based on power alone. You do feel the shiftcam kicking in and at around 6000 - front wheel goes straight up.

The gearing has changed for the better. Now 5th gear is usuable in road legal speeds. I would say that 1 and 2 gear also feels different. I think they are longer than on the 1290 - I need to ride the bike more to be sure..

The suspensions feels a bit better too. The bike feels more stable, and there is more of a "magic carpet" feel to the bike when riding in somewhat bumpy roads at fast pace.

Brakes - Dont really feel any difference from 1290. Nice feature that you can adjust brake "bite" now on the new mastercylinder.

Antiwheelie feature - It works very well, but more like a antiflip feature. You will not be able to float along a wheelie with the throttle pinned at different levels. Once you hit the level you set it to, the bike cuts the power. Its not a violent cut, but you will not be able to keep the wheelie going. It works very well in the sence that it will prevent you from flipping it.

Other than that there are some layout differences on the dash and new functions.

They have added rev limiter when cold - same as BMW has. Needs to warm up before you are allowed to rev higher than 5500.

Lean angel sensor was a cool feature off course.

Hi mate. I’m due to receive my Evo in 3 weeks and can’t wait. I’ve owned all 3 gens in the past. Had a couple of years away from the beast with a different style of bike but it called me back.

Surprised about being able to feel the cam shift. Was hoping it would be seamless like the BMW system as opposed to a sudden jump in the power/torque.

I’ve bitten the bullet and gone for the full Akra so it’s going to be an animal.

Its not feelable in the sense that there is some sudden jump in power. Its more like you add 20% more shit to the shit hits the fan experience. I do however feel like the bike is more rev hungry than the 1290 was. It just wants you to add more.
Its noticable faster, probably due to the combination of more powewr, better handeling, suspention etc. Its a license killer for sure....

I've just received my 1390 Evo. Did a 50 mile loop to start breaking tyres in.

First impressions - handling is sublime, as good as I remember on my Gen 3 1290 if not better. Great at smoothing out uneven road surfaces (I've just come off a Multi V4 which was brilliant and this is almost as good which isn't bad for a super naked).

Brakes no change, as good as I remember from my Gen 3.

Power and torque - pulls all the way through rev range even in 5/6th BUT I had a standard Gen 3 whereas my 1390 has a full Akra so not comparing like for like.

Biggest thing though - not sure if it's gone softer?? On my Gen 3 I could be cruising along at 30 mph in 2nd, crack a little bit of throttle and I was on the back wheel. Now, I'm cruising around same speed same gear, grab a massive handful of throttle and nothing. It accelerates well enough but not getting that same torque hit that just instantly raises the front wheel. Performance mode/track throttle response so it can't be that. Anyone else noticed this?

Love the looks as well, it's gorgeous.

Oh....I went into this fully eyes open about KTM electronic gremlins. Second time switching on and 'Body Control Unit Failure'. Shutting down/restarting doesn't fix it. Is this basically saying IMU failure?? I've ignored it and it rides fine so not sure if there's actually an issue?

7k miles on my Ducati not a single problem, first 50 miles on this and electronic issues. At least I expected it.

Thanks for replying mate, yes the dealer said that was the only way to get rid of the knocking sound from the secondary air solenoid. Get a sas removal kit plus Full akro and remap, plus the indicators have to be disconnected before you can start it. And then it's only for track riding and not for public roads. Are your indicators disconnected???.

If you have the normal stock exhaust and map then it shouldn’t be making any knocking noises otherwise that’s like selling the bike faulty. You definitely don’t need to buy a full system and map to make the bike work as it should. But If you have the Akra system without the SAS / map then I’m not sure.

With the full system and map they need to put in a relay switch to override the electronic settings so the indicators still work. You still get warnings on the dash for faults but it all works fine.

Mine still hasn't had the first service booked on the 29th.
Can't say I've had the same problem m8.
Only issue I've had is lubed the chain with the bike in gear on paddock stand. Threw up loads of errors. Engine management light cleared after 2 days.
However the wheelie control/height option seems to have disappeared!
Any ideas?

They often don't care if it changes power by less than 5%, lord knows how they expect you to know that, but typically an end can will never make that on its own.

Power Commanders seem to scare the crap out of insurers, in an insane way, if you got a quote for a CBR600 and a Fireblade the CBR would be cheaper to insure, declare a power commander and it would almost certainly exceed the Fireblade quote, so you get a @120BHP bike, fit something to get another @5BHP and the insurers charge more than if you bought the 180BHP machine.

I am assuming remaps would scare them too, although never declared one, and if you declare an exhaust system that adds more than 5% they charge you for all this extra power, and you need a map for the exhaust to work, but I bet they double fuck you for the exhaust and remap.....

...Try "go compare", you can put in the details of the bike in stock form, get the quotes, then try again with mods - but the more mods, the fewer insurers that will cover it, and that is often where the price hit comes from as the cheapest insurers tend to refuse anything more extreme than a tank pad.

700 mile update - Evo suspension

Have had the first service done, so wanted to give my thoughts on the electronic suspension, especially coming straight from a Multistrada V4S.

Generally I found it firmly set up. I rode the first few hundred miles on Auto damping adjustment as that was my go-to on the Multi, but found it both a bit too firm but more importantly very inconsistent.

I once rode the same route - which is my regular favourite so I know it inside out - back to back on consecutive days, same sunny 20C weather conditions, same time of day and tyre pressures. Bike felt completely different between the two. Second day the road felt infinitely more bumpy.

Unless you’re riding the exact same piece of tarmac to the millimetre, the bike/road will feel different every time as the system adjusts differently. I personally didn’t like this.

Also worth noting it was significantly firmer than the Multistrada which glided along.

It’s the sacrifice you have to make for 17” wheels.

Admittedly the roads in my part of the world are at the top of the worse ranked road surfaces in the UK and are a complete shambles, however they quickly expose any suspension flaws.

I’ve since started using the ‘Street’ damping setting and as it’s a pre-set, I’ve found it a lot more compliant over the bumps and way more consistent. This is now my default for UK road riding.

The other presets are also consistent but I found Sport too firm for our road surfaces and Comfort a little too soft and wallowy for spirited riding.

Some will want to know, with the benefit of hindsight would I still go for the Evo? I think I would get the standard R if I could go back.
