ATF dexron 3. And it's cheap as chips for 5 litres on Fleebay.

 

The colour comes from the ally clutch plates. Drain from gear lever side only, put 600 ml into it. Atf works well, as does most cheap engine oil.

 

And the kick start side plug is made of cheese.

 

Yup, level plug too. Its cos it's screwed into magnesium, hence dont touch that side.

 

Right so there is a level plug but don't use it and you can use either at for engine oil? Reason I was asking about a level plug is it looks like it is leaking a small amount on the output shaft. Just wanted to monitor how much was leaking. Although it is working well as an auto lube for the chain.

Output shaft seal is a cheap and easy fix. Dealer sells at kit. All done from the outside. See YouTube to de how it's done. Takes 15 mins.

Do 2006-2012 bikes have the drain bolt on the left hand gear side also?

 

yes, use the left side drain, lean the bike over to empty the gearbox, then put in 600ml, not 700.

 

my 200 leaked from the output shaft.......not from the seal, but from the inside of the spacer, there is an o-ring behind the spacer, that gets pushed down by the circlip and sprocket. You can get an after market kit with a slighty thicker o-ring and a slightly thicker circlip. this was the best fix I found for the leaky shaft.

 

Sometimes the leak is caused by the front sprocket smashing forwards and backwards and side to side due to excessive wear on your final drive shaft itself which in return stresses the seals.
I've had to change the shaft on every Ktm I've owned.

 

Knowing my luck will need a new output shaft. Will replace the seals and see if it reoccurs. It's only getting used for plodding around on. Not built up to thrashing it yet.
